Sephardim

For many centuries, Córdoba was a marker of Jewish creativity and cosmopolitanism afforded by Islam in contrast to the prison that was Christian Europe. "Arab Derangement Syndrome" sees things in quite the opposite way.

What Israel means to me at the moment is the fact of Jews persecuting other Jews for speaking out and affirming the traditions of the past, of being "Old Jews" rather than "New Jews."

Though it is sad to see the cultural degeneration of the Israeli Sephardim, it is nonetheless true that the community now represents a viciously reactionary element in the Israeli political system.
