I feel the need to say this because the voices of a few from the "community" so easily get taken for the voices of all. For all the time black people spend trying to convince everyone else that we are not a monolith, we need to remind ourselves of that as well.

It's time to change our culture so that we would never dream of asking, "What was the victim wearing?" It is time that we hold rapists and assaulters accountable because the question is never what was she wearing but why is he raping?

You can't "reclaim" a word defined by a predominant group in power unless you are a part of that group. Just ask all of those people on a mission to "reclaim" the N-word for black Americans or the F-word for gay Americans.

Sl*twalk is a protest against a rape culture. Women are speaking out against the understanding with which many of us live -- if you've been raped, molested, abused, or betrayed then you must have done something to deserve it.
