The feud between Democrats and Republicans is one that runs much deeper and more vicious than that of the Red Sox/Yankees. We choose our political label as though it were a sports team and we hold on to it, cemented in our shoes, without blinking.
Even unscathed by the tragedy -- sleeping warm and tight with water and electricity -- you feel the surreal dichotomy of the deep gratitude that you are OK and the staggering pain for all those who have lost something.
Today, we are facing our own public health emergency that is planetary in scope. The only option now is to sideline the Senator Inhofes and the George Wills of this world and mobilize the not-insane people and their governments to bring us back from the brink.
