Katie Holmes Explains Suri's High Heels

Katie Holmes explained and defended daughter Suri's affinity for wearing high heels at the inaugural event for her Dizzy Feet charity Sunday night.

Holmes told "Access Hollywood" of Suri, "She, like every little girl - she loves my high heels" and wanted her own.

She said despite the uproar, they are safe for her young feet

"They are actually ballroom dancing shoes for kids," Katie said. "I found them for her and she loves them."

Suri has been spotted wearing the heels on many occasions in recent months.

The Cruise family is down under at the moment, and Sunday Tom, Katie and Suri went to the stage production of 'Jersey Boy' in Melbourne, Australia.

Bundled against the Australian winter, Tom carried a camera shy Suri to and from the car. According to a local paper, the Cruises are in Melbourne as guests of James Packer. The paper also reports Suri was well-behaved throughout the play.

Holmes, who had long hair from her "Dawson's Creek" days through her 2006 wedding, first cropped her hair short in the spring of 2007. It's stayed well above her shoulders ever since.

In a departure from their norm, the family appeared to have flown commercial, walking through the terminal full of photographers and fans.

Despite the long flight, the family smiled for pictures, signed autographs and gave a quick interview. Tom carried Suri's stuffed elephant while she carried a purple purse.

Katie Holmes, fresh off her run in Broadway's "All My Sons," talks motherhood, marriage and her limited cooking in the April issue of Glamour magazine.

On the rumors that followed Suri's birth:

"Some of the stuff [people said] was such absolutely horrible things to say about a child... It was so uncalled for and so disgusting. Enough is enough."

Asked what she wants to say to the people who spread rumors, Holmes remarks, "Sometimes I think I would say, 'Why don't you come over and have dinner? See what there is to see.'"

On motherhood:

"Becoming a mother has been the most amazing experience--in an instant you become strong. You have to be a little bit wiser; it's the most important job you have in the world...

We like to be together, so we use the house for our [business] meetings. [We] play Yahtzee, board games, Scrabble. We grill; have pool parties. We play 'The Three Little Pigs' and Suri is the Big Bad Wolf. [Tom] reads story books to Suri and we all laugh. When a good song comes on, he'll break into dance. We'll watch movies in bed--recently Madagascar and Cinderella, for Suri. We have a really good time.

"She's really such a special girl -- strong and funny. She's her own person. She has a great sense of humor.""

On cooking:

"I don't really cook that much--eventually I will. I do make cupcakes. And [Tom] makes his pasta carbonara for me. He knows exactly how to do it: a pinch of this, a pinch of that. He has a recipe, but he also kind of [improvises] by himself. You have to do the egg at a certain time. He did it once when we were camping."

Over the weekend the Cruise family, minus oldest daughter Bella, went to Disney World.

Suri Cruise, dressed in matching princess dresses to Cinderella and Belle, seemed enthralled by the trip, which included meeting Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Katie, Tom, Suri and Connor also went on Dumbo the Flying Elephant Ride and Tom played paparazzi to his family, as did many onlookers seen in the background.

While in Florida Tom and son Connor also went to the Daytona 500, photos of which are here.

Tom Cruise continued his international "Valkyrie" junket in Brazil this week. He and wife Katie Holmes left Suri behind for the Rio premiere Tuesday night. Holmes wore a vintage Christian Lacroix dress.

The AP reported that Cruise won over the Brazilian press:

RIO DE JANEIRO - Tom Cruise may sometimes confuse his countries, but he's winning fans among Brazil's press corps.

A news conference to promote his movie "Valkyrie" turned into something of a fan club meeting when a journalist said he promised his niece he would get a photo with Cruise. The actor immediately obliged.

That prompted another journalist to squeeze under a barrier for a photo. Guards stopped other reporters from doing the same.

Cruise says he's enjoying his five-day Brazil trip, but sometimes stumbled over differences between Latin American nations

He thanked one questioner with the Spanish "gracias" -- though Brazilians speak Portuguese. And he said he enjoys the tango -- the traditional dance of neighboring Argentina.

Elisabeth asked what he thinks of Suri's fame, and Cruise answered that he is torn. "It's both very flatteringly and you go, 'it is what it is.'"

He then told a story about going to see Katie Holmes (30 times and counting) in her play "All My Sons. Recently he has sat with Suri on his lap in the wings to watch, and Suri climbed out of his lap and inched her way towards the stage, batting away her dad's hand when he tried to lure her back.

Katie Holmes is so dedicated to "All My Sons" on Broadway, she spent the night of her 30th birthday Thursday without husband Tom Cruise and is skipping January's Golden Globes, at which Tom is nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

While her husband was at the Los Angeles premiere of "Valkyrie," Katie and Suri were serenaded by her fellow cast and the audience with "Happy Birthday" and given a huge cake - from Tom - at Thursday's curtain call, reports People:

Addressing the audience, Holmes's costar John Lithgow announced, "Tom Cruise, our good friend, devoted fan to the show, doting husband of Katie, could not be here tonight. He's heartsick that he couldn't be here ... but he wanted to make his presence felt. So, he's joining us, inviting all of you, to celebrate Katie's birthday."

And with that, crewmembers wheeled out a five-tiered, white-frosted, circular birthday cake as the crowd cheered and applauded...

A genuinely surprised Holmes, who had been celebrating her birthday all week long, brought her 2-year-old daughter Suri on to the stage as the cast - including Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson - encouraged the entire audience to sing "Happy Birthday." Together, the mother-daughter duo blew out the candles.

Meanwhile, the final performance of "All My Sons" is scheduled for the same night as the Golden Globes, that of January 11th. Fox News found out what her choice would be, Broadway or her husband's awards show:

Ina Treciokas, Katie's press rep, answers the question definitively. "Katie's decided to stay and her do last show," Ina tells me. "She won't be going with Tom to the Globes. The cast of 'All My Sons' has been like a family and they want to end it together."...

Holmes has been a stalwart. She hasn't missed a performance, as far as I know. She's remained devoted to the play even though she's got the smallest of the four leads.

Earlier in the week Katie also missed the New York premiere of "Valkyrie" as she was on stage, but she did go to the premiere's after party once her Broadway work was done.
