Though I had no one close to share the memories with, I was able to focus more clearly on what makes the experience so memorable. There is something about connecting with nature in such a profound way that forces you see things from a new perspective.
Tanzania has a way of reeling you in. It is at once so challenging and raw, yet at the same time comforting and nurturing. It is verdant and it is arid. It is ocean and it is mountain; it is highway and it is island.
The sea of eyes transitioned upwards as my attention turned to the beautiful night sky. The moment that I realized I was surrounded by hyenas in the middle of the Serengeti I thought to myself, this was the Africa I came to experience.

Back when my wife and I first married we promised ourselves that someday we'd travel to Africa and see the elephants and lions. We just fulfilled that promise by celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on safari to Tanzania.
