Tavis Smiley used to be the darling of black America. Once upon a time his keen critical commentary, ubiquitous media presence and undeniable charm brought delight to the hearts and minds of many black Americans. But things changed when Obama announced his candidacy for president.
Regardless of what Cain, West and Smiley say, blacks in America will continue to be in President Obama's corner. Not because we are brainwashed, but because he offers the best chance for the advancement of the community.
With frustrations high and solutions still a bit unclear, we should expect the pressure to become intensified in the coming months. However, it is crystal clear to me that there are unrealistic expectations of the president.
