Last week, the Manhattan Institute released a report that suggests Chicago is less segregated than it was a decade ago. When I drive through the Near North Side, it sure appears to be true.

Olympics have displaced more than two million people in the last 20 years, especially minorities and the poor. With or without the Games, we're witnessing the clearing of two miles of lakefront property.

In Illinois, when we're talking about ex-offenders, we're really talking about black men. And it's possible that the race of an ex-offender will tell you more about their chances of finding work than their criminal history.

Grocery stores are pretty sparse in Auburn Gresham, where I live, and many other predominantly black communities on Chicago's South Side.
