For us 9/11 kids, there's something that sticks out about The Rising as an album from the first note of "Lonesome Day."
What did a chronological assessment of Bruce Springsteen's albums have to do with making me a "good person?" I found the answer in The Rising. It's the understanding, solidarity and empathy that music can provide following tragedy.
Tragedy is the one event throughout history that has never failed to bring people together, no matter race, religion or beliefs. The Rising plays off of this idea.

The criteria are flexible. They're a combination of songwriting, listening pleasure, live performance and at what point in the song I begin to cry like an 11-year-old girl.
