Many veterans, like me, have turned to our parks and public lands as a means of recovery. That is why I am speaking out to protect America's public lands -- it is time to repay what these places have given to me and other veterans.
In a rare show of bipartisanship, Congress recently passed a bill that provides about $120 billion for the nation's highways. While this infrastructure money is sorely needed, the bill fails to address a problem that will only grow in the coming years.
The United States is not a car-dependent country any more. Congress should allocate funding to support public transit, biking, and walking in the same manner it has been supporting driving for decades.
