Luckily, more attention and focus is being shed on the struggle so many military spouses are facing as it relates to employment, and employers are starting to realize that military spouses are a perfect match for their open positions.
May is Military Appreciation Month, and this Friday, May 10th is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. As if we need a special day to thank the military and military spouses for the service and sacrifice to the Nation, but I guess for some, they actually do have to be reminded.
It is not about sheer volume nor is it ever a one-size-fits-all approach. It is about facilitating the best match between employer and job seeker to avoid missed opportunities and help both parties advance their goals.
We have young service members managing millions of dollars in equipment and supplies in Afghanistan who when he/she leaves the military, often finds it difficult to land an entry-level job in a warehouse.
With 12.5 million people out of work and 3.5 million jobs open, we should certainly be doing everything possible to help employers and workers. Fortunately, there are plenty of innovators out there coming up with new ways to help.
