There's an immediacy to works on paper. It shows the artist's hand more than other mediums, rendering the artist's soul more visible and their intent more clear.

Deb Sokolow's work at Western Exhibitions reminds me of reading comics as a kid. There's a pulpy quality to her narrative pieces. A story is revealed or dissected.

I had the joy of seeing the Matisse show at the Art Institute this week.

Unfortunately, I sense that there are numerous galleries that are not going to be around much longer. I doubt they have anyone to fault but themselves.

There are a lot of shows opening - and the ones I'm writing about are just the tip of the iceberg. Go out and find out for yourself. And even if you disagree with me, you're certain to find a lot you'll like.
