Baby Survives Being Born In Toilet

Heather Richard thought she would never have a baby - until one was born in her toilet.

Richard, who is from Winnipeg, had been feeling unwell when she retired to the toilet in her home last weekend. Upon using the facilities, she gave birth to a 5-pound baby boy. She had previously had three miscarriages and been told she would not have children.

The Toronto Star reports her reaction:

"Just fell out, I thought it was my intestines, so I'm freaking out, I'm going to die, but then it's a little boy," Richard told CTV Winnipeg on Monday.

Richard's relatives found her in the bathroom in a state of shock. Her cousin relayed his reaction to CBC news:

"I look and I see her sitting here and crying and pointing at the toilet. So I look and there is a baby in there with the foot hanging out and there's blood everywhere and I didn't know what to do and so I got really shocked," said Keith Richard, a cousin of the woman.

According to Richard's grandmother, no one knew she was pregnant as she was a "hefty girl."

By a bizarre twist of fate, at that moment two police officers were knocking at the door to arrest Richard for a number of outstanding warrants.

After plucking the baby from the toilet, the officers gave CPR to the boy, who was taken to hospital. It was reported that the baby suffered a skull fracture from hitting his head on the bowl, but he is now in a stable condition.

The officer who gave CPR to the boy is now being taking medications because of the possibility of bodily fluid contamination.

World Record Day occurred today, and saw a variety of attempts to smash previous records from all corners of the globe.

In London, a man broke the world record for pulling a double-decker bus with his hair. In New Zealand a man set a record by spitting a champagne cork over five meters. In Finland, 76 people of 46 nationalities got into a sauna. And there was the record for the largest gingerbread man, which took place in Denmark.

Scores of other attempts were made. AFP gives details of a four-gallon cup of hot chocolate in New York, 112 strangers hugging at a British train station, and a German man breaking 11 concrete blocks with his elbow whilst holding a raw egg.

Police Play Wii Bowling During Drug Raid (VIDEO)

New security camera video shows police officers in Florida bowling on a Nintendo Wii for hours during a drug raid at a suspect's home.

Tampa Bay Online has details:

With guns drawn and flashlights cutting through darkened rooms, Polk County undercover drug investigators stormed the home of convicted drug dealer Michael Difalco near Lakeland in March.

As investigators searched the home for drugs, some drug task force members found other ways to occupy their time. Within 20 minutes of entering Difalco's house, some of the investigators found a Wii video bowling game and began bowling frame after frame.

Stephfon Bennett: Man Robs Woman, Asks Her Out On Date

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio police said a suspect in a robbery was arrested when he returned to the home about two hours later to ask the victim out on a date. Police say 20-year-old Stephfon Bennett of Columbus was among three men who robbed a couple late Sunday.

Columbus police Sgt. Sean Laird said the woman recognized Bennett as one of the robbers when he returned to ask her out. She had a relative call 911.

Police said Bennett was arrested in front of the home. He was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of aggravated robbery and was being held in the Franklin County jail on $100,000 bail.

A public defender had not yet been assigned to Bennett's case.

Man Calls 911 Twice To Say He's Hungry

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Authorities said a man was arrested after calling 911 twice for a ride and saying he was hungry. Police reports said Benjamin Dewer, 26, was charged early Wednesday with making false calls to 911. The report said Dewer was apparently drunk when police found him sitting on a sidewalk. He asked police for a ride to a park and told them he was hungry.

When police refused, Dewer walked away and called 911 a second time for a ride.

Lisa Newsome: Woman Smuggles 20 Pounds Of Beer Out Of Store Between Her Legs

ZACHARY, La. — Grocery store cameras caught the woman taking a 24-can case of beer from a cooler, exposing the 20-pound case between her thighs by pulling up her housedress, pulling her dress back down, and waddling out of the store. But it took a while to identify and find her.

Lisa Newsome, 42, of Baker, didn't deny anything when she was arrested Monday, said Capt. David McDavid of the Zachary Police Department.

"She wanted to demonstrate it ..." he said. "I told her, no thanks, I wasn't into that."

She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a theft charge, he said.

"We weighed a case," he said. "It was 20 pounds."

The theft was Aug. 22. McDavid said police learned the woman's identity last week and located her Monday afternoon.

Casey Rayborn Hicks, spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, said she did not know whether Newsome had an attorney. Newsome remained in jail Tuesday in lieu of $1,000 bond.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina woman has won a $2 million jury verdict against a dental clinic that mistakenly pulled 13 teeth. The State reported that 28-year-old Elizabeth Smith wanted three teeth pulled when she went to the Sexton Dental Clinic in Florence in 2006. Her lawsuit said a dentist at the clinic pulled all 16 of her upper teeth.

State court records in Florence indicate the jury returned the award late last week.

Man Bites Off Love Rival's Ear Lobe

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — A southeast Missouri man was accused of biting off the ear lobe of a love rival. The Southeast Missourian reported that a 23-year-old man was charged with felony assault and burglary and was jailed on $50,000 bond.

Police said the suspect and the victim were arguing over a woman just before midnight Tuesday. The suspect allegedly displayed a butcher knife, but the victim and the woman pushed him out the door.

LANCASTER, Pa. — Police said a 72-year-old pizza shop employee foiled a shotgun-point robbery by throwing a can of beer at the perpetrators. Lancaster police Lt. Todd Umstead said two men with bandanas over their faces attempted to rob Six Packs on Vine at closing time Wednesday. One of the men pointed a shotgun at the employee, who was stocking a cooler.

Umstead said the man threw a 12-ounce can of beer at the robber and both assailants fled the store.

QUINCY, Mass. — A woman was arrested after admitting to police that she hid 19 bags of crack cocaine in her bra. Sandra Sanborn was charged Sunday with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute following a tip to Quincy's police drug unit.

Capt. John Dougan said when detectives approached the 33-year-old woman at a Quincy building, she was holding a bag containing crack cocaine in her hand. Dougan said Sanborn then produced 19 more bags tucked away in her bra.

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. — Florida investigators say a man accused of downloading child pornography is blaming his cat. Keith Griffin of Jensen Beach is charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography after detectives found more than 1,000 images on his home computer.

According to a sheriff's report Friday, Griffin told investigators that his cat jumped on the computer keyboard while he was downloading music. He said he had left the room and found "strange things" on his computer when he returned.
