Tallia Storm
After leaving her demo CD with Sir Elton John’s partner in a hotel restaurant, teen singer/songwriter Tallia Storm’s life changed forever in 2012.

Sir Elton John called within 24 hours and invited her to open his football stadium concert in Scotland at just 13 years old. She belted out her strong soulful melodies, with an R&B groove that simply defied her petite teenage frame. To great critical acclaim, she was front-page news in the UK media, newly dubbed ‘Tiny Chancer.'

Since then she’s performed across the world with her trademark ‘big hair’ and critically acclaimed in her native Scotland with her quirky and fearless sense of style and sound. There’s something quite raw and interesting about the Tallia Storm vocal. Nothing contrived, just a deep soulful signature reminiscent to that from the Motown era, belying her age.

Together with her father Sascha, a jazz pianist and producer, Tallia has crafted a unique sound having grown up singing the great legends of jazz. She counts Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Lena Horne, Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday as her inspiration and listens to Charlie Parker, Dizzie Gillespie and Coltrane. However, she adds a contemporary twist being influenced by the likes of Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Frank Ocean, John Legend, Stevie Wonder and of course the late Amy Winehouse.
She’s just signed a global record deal with Virgin Records at the iconic Capitol Tower in Hollywood, has presented at TEDxTeen at the request of Nile Rodgers, writes for Huffington Post Teen and still has her feet firmly on the ground, juggling school and teenage life!

(1) Comments | Posted May 11, 2015 | 9:13 AM

First off, I should declare that I'm a major fan of social media and especially emoticons. Emoticons are without a doubt the future of our language. Yes, I ignore my mother's pleas to pick up the phone and speak to my sister. Instead, I send big sis a serious a...

So this week has been pretty mental. I've been like a 6-year-old with a secret, desperate to tell my pals for weeks and alas today the secret is released -- literally! I've bagged a two-book deal with Scholastic UK. Okay allow me a moment's pause whilst I pinch myself (I've...

Becoming 16

So today I officially turned 16 -- yippee. Actually, I've been stretching this birthday thing out all week since my big party that Paul Frank hosted for me last Sunday at The Sanctuary in Glasgow and might I say it was awesome. (No boasting intended here -- just over-excitement!)

I'm Hosting TEDxTeen and Here's Why You Should Tune In

According to the Oxford English dictionary, the definition of "disruptor" is "one who breaks up, one who causes disruption." When we think of "Remarkable Disruptors," the theme of the inaugural TEDxTeen London event, (which I'm hosting on October 11), we are focusing on positivity, rather than the negativity of the...

To say I have been waiting some hours, weeks, months perhaps seconds to break this news is an understatement, but here goes: little missy -- a.k.a. moi -- can now reveal that I have signed a record deal (even putting that in print feels weird but wonderful).

Yip, can...

Many Chase the Pop Dream, But Do We Have What It Takes to Be a Star?

(0) Comments | Posted May 29, 2014 | 4:01 PM

It's the basic premise of making it in this big crazy competitive music world, right? To be able to sing. But is that all? That is indeed the entry criteria, but how many people can actually call themselves a true, live act? One who can strip away the icing and...

'No' Is Never the Answer

It's been a crazy few months between my singing, traveling and indeed, schoolwork. The story of my demo CD continues to work its magic when I got a call from Eva Longoria's PR team to invite me to sing at her gala charity ball in Marbella, Spain. Wow -- I...

I was expecting "awesome" from simply everything I had read about this global teen conference, but I hadn't expected such levels of awesome and I hadn't even arrived in New York yet. For on Wednesday March 13, I sat in my mum's study (in our wee village just outside Glasgow,...

Last week, I bought my two wee brothers Zachary (age 6) and Johnnie (age 9), the new red noses. If you don't live in Britain you may be wondering what on earth I'm going on about, but this is the 25th anniversary of a really amazing charity who have recruited...

It's fair to say this wasn't your average school half-term break. The way I see it, as I pursue my music career, it's important that I keep all my "irons on the fire," eh? So off I went to London Fashion Week as a blogger and what a roller coaster...

When I found out that I had been invited to speak at the TEDxTeen conference in New York on March 16, my first and most obvious question was, "Why me?" This was closely followed with, "OMG! How cool would a trip to New York be?"

It's a perfectly...

The Day That Changed My Life

(0) Comments | Posted January 8, 2013 | 8:28 AM

January 7 is a very special day for two reasons. First, it's the birthday of my amazing nanny (we're not allowed to call her granny; she hates that). She's 79 years young! Second, one year ago, I acted very impulsively -- almost irrationally in hindsight. But it was an act...

Do Scottish Teenagers Really Care About Independence?

(38) Comments | Posted July 5, 2012 | 9:20 AM

Teens and politics rarely go together. I mean, there are those in school that clearly have a passion for politics and they rear their ambitious and argumentative traits in the debating society and that's great -- I am partial to a good debate myself and enjoy watching others. But what...

Me, Myself and Music (VIDEO)

Ever since I can remember, I have been singing. My mum used to shout at me for not asking a question but singing a question, if you catch my drift. Everything I said seemed to come out in a melodic manner. It's just me, although in truth, it did become...
