Should I get the iPad or not? My house is already full of devices, and I don't want to waste money on something I don't really need.
But, I got allured by something that Steve Jobs said at the iPad launch today: "The iPad gives a much more intimate feel than a laptop, and is much more capable than a smart phone."
That is exactly what I want to have: a device, that I can hang out in bed with. Meaning, I want to read stuff on the device at bed before falling asleep, and the first thing in the morning. Apart from reading, I want to watch videos and movies in the bed, without having a clumsy laptop in my lap.
I do a lot of that already on my iPhone, but the screen is terribly small. I have been thinking of purchasing the Kindle, but I know that the device convergence will eat it away. The iPad is much more than an e-reader.
When I held the iPad in my hand at the launch today, it felt like a friend already. That is a good start for a relationship with a device, however intimate the relationship will become.
