The Summer Hoedown Is Officially Your Drink Of The Season

The Huffington Post | James Cave | June 2, 2016 | Taste
It's hard to find two things that say "summer lovin'" better than watermelons and this guy: If for some reason you can't eat a whole, basketball-sized watermelon in a single sitting, we present to you a way to drink your watermelon with beer in a delicious cocktail, courtesy of Chowhound. It's called the Summer Hoedown, a beer cocktail named after its chief ingredient, Hoegaarden beer (but you can use any white ale). But first, how to pick the best, juiciest watermelon at the market: Bon Appetit recommends that you judge a watermelon by its appearance. The good watermelons usually have a consistent shape, rich colors, minimal scars, a milky yellow spot on the bottom where the melon rested on the dirt and is heavier than you think it should be. Whether seeded or seedless is better, we'll leave that up to you. Now, the drink: To make Chowhound's Summer Hoedown, here's what you'll need: 1 (6-ounce) seedless watermelon, rind removed and cut into large cubes 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1/4 cup maraschino liqueur, such as Luxardo 4 (12-ounce) bottles of Hoegaarden or other white beer Blend half the watermelon until liquified; pour through a strainer and into a punch bowl, using a rubber spatula to push the melon through the strainer, leaving only pulp behind. Discard pulp and repeat with remaining watermelon, resulting in about 6 cups of juice. Add sugar to juice and stir until dissolved.  Refrigerate until chilled, about 1 1/2 hours. When ready to serve, stir in beer and maraschino liqueur. If your mouth whets for more watermelon drinks, check out our list below. Summer (and watermelon's peak season, which is May through September in the U.S.) will be over before you know...

Seth Rogen And Amy Schumer Toast Same-Sex Marriage For Bud Light

The Huffington Post | Curtis M. Wong | June 1, 2016 | Queer Voices
Bud Light has tapped Seth Rogen and Amy Schumer to help them celebrate LGBT Pride Month and the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's historic ruling on marriage equality.  Rogen and Schumer are the stars of the beer giant's brand new television commercial, "Weddings." In the clip, which debuts on Wednesday, the comedians toast a gay couple at a raucous reception as they point out how the pitfalls of a same-sex wedding are, well, the same as any wedding. Keep your eyes peeled for a hilarious cameo by Schumer's pal Bridget Everett, a New York comedian and cabaret star who was also featured in "Trainwreck" last year.   "Bud Light proudly supports everyone's right to marry whoever they want," Rogen declares at the end of the clip.  "Weddings" is an extension of the "Bud Light Party," an ongoing election year effort meant to promote the Anheuser-Busch beer as an "inclusive, positive and fun brand," which kicked off at Super Bowl 50 in February with a politically-themed ad starring Rogen and Schumer. The clip will be broadcast on primetime television, while images will be featured on rainbow-lit billboards, organizers said in a press release.  Alex Lambrecht, the vice president of Bud Light at Anheuser-Busch, said that including the marriage equality effort made sense in a campaign that "champions inclusivity."  "By featuring Seth and Amy at a same-sex wedding, we’re showing how all weddings -- regardless of who is getting married -- share many similarities and moments to celebrate," Lambrecht said in a statement. "We created this spot because equality for all Americans is a concept that unites many Bud Light drinkers.” Cheers to you, Bud Light, for shining the spotlight on...

This Is Why Toddlers Are Such Picky Eaters

The Huffington Post | Caroline Bologna | June 1, 2016 | Parents
Toddlers aren't generally known for their sophisticated palates, so it comes as no surprise when they outright reject certain foods in their special, tantrum-filled way. But what if toddlers could rationally explain why they're such picky eaters and craft persuasive arguments to get out of trying new foods? That's what the funny moms of The BreakWomb explore in the latest video from their series, "If Toddlers Could Put Their Feelings Into Words." As one "toddler" notes, "I'm not a picky eater. I'm discerning." Adds another, "I don't see you trying new food all the time. When's the last time you ate cow's tongue?" Lol. Fair...

Most burger snobs agree: well-done burgers are a no-no. But not everybody likes a medium-rare burger, and let's face it -- with all the beer drinking, Frisbee-throwing and toddler-chasing at barbecues, most home-grilled burgers end up on the well-cooked side, anyway. Luckily, there's a handy trick from the...
