I just spoke with Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND), on my nationally syndicated radio program, The Tavis Smiley Show from PRI, to discuss the 'Gang of Six' proposal. He's chair of the Budget Committee and a member of the so-called 'Gang of Six'.

When asked whether a deal could be reached by the August 2 deadline he said:

"I suspect it's going to require some short term extension of the debt for more chance to educate and persuade colleagues of what has to be done for the longer term. But at the end of the day, I don't think there's any question that a plan something like... everyone of the bipartisan commissions has proposed is going to be necessary."
