Tonight on PBS, I sit with author Shyima Hall. Her memoir Hidden Girl: The True Story of a Modern-Day Child Slave, provides an emotionally gripping recount of her years in human captivity. Sold into slavery by her parents when she was just 8 years old, Hall's ordeal took her from Egypt to a gated community in Southern California. For four years, she lived under the control of a wealthy couple that abused her mentally and physically. Now 24, she works as an advocate to spread awareness of child trafficking.
In the clip below, Hall talks about the importance of strength, determination and bringing the issue of human trafficking out of the shadows.
