TBA: Byron York Plays Michelle Malkin

Here we go again. Last year I was there when Clinton was booed. Here's the audio of last year's event if you want to hear it; the boos coming at the end of the tape. This year she got a much better reception according to most, but she still got booed. However, the story line is already starting that she was booed for the same reason they said last year: It was because Clinton talked about the troops and the audience is anti-military. Only last year it was Michelle Malkin and Hot Air trying to make the case. This year it's Byron York. However, it's the same crap.

"We're going to end the war in Iraq and finally bring home the troops," she said as a number of Code Pink protesters stood up in the audience. When she declared, "The American military has done its job," boos began to be heard around the room. As the boos increased, Sen. Clinton raised her voice. "The American military has succeeded," she said, to more boos. "It is the Iraqi government that has failed to make the tough decisions." Still more boos. Byron York

The wingnuts are saying Clinton was booed because -- wait for it -- she said the military had done its job. That boos went up in the audience because Clinton mentioned the troops. Translation: the nasty, mean liberals at Take Back America do not like the military. That's the talking point York was looking for and he gladly served it up.

We've been here before.

This is exactly what happened last year. In fact, I got into a blog fight with Michelle Malkin and Hot Air over the exact same framing. Exactly. From last year:

Plus, the lefties can't hear, either. Because Hillary did get booed when she said we need to support the troops. You fellas can spin it all you want, but it's on the tape. Hot Air

If you watch the videos from last year you will see one thing. First, Hot Air selectively cut the tapes. Again, refer to my post or read Maha's. Secondly, the booing wasn't about the troops, it was about Clinton's stance on the war. But the conservatives want to instill the lie that liberals do not support the troops and they will do anything to get that job done.

This year it's a different story, but it's the same effort to push the same story line. Bill Scher was there. Here's what happened:

Why get booed for that?

Because a lot of people are sick and tired of what's become a stand-by cop-out bipartisan talking point: that the Iraqis are solely to blame for the chaos and de-stablization. ... ..

Exactly like last year, the boos directed toward Clinton had absolutely nothing to do with the troops. Exactly like last year, a conservative wingnut tries to make a different case. Just exchange Malkin for York and you've got the idea. The job was to get the story that liberals at Take Back America don't support the troops. It's a lie, but if they can serve it up and Fox "News" and wingnut radio runs with it, what the hell, right? This argument is obviously about policy and putting the responsibility and accountability for Iraq where it belongs: George W. Bush and the Republicans (and some Democrats) who continue to support a failed policy. The booing this year, the same as last, had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the troops.
