In Nevada, two local governments voted to allow medical marijuana dispensaries and related businesses in their areas.
Commissioners approved licensing and land-use regulations in Clark County, which is Nevada's most populated county, that will allow prospective ganjapreneurs to begin the application process for the necessary permits as soon as next month.
The Las Vegas City Council also voted to allow medical marijuana businesses, and directed staff members to draft final regulations for an upcoming vote.
The state's Legislature passed a bill in 2013 allowing for a network of cultivation services, testing labs and dispensaries in order to establish a legal system of distributing medical marijuana to qualifying patients in need of safe access.
"This is a monumental step I think that the county took," commission Chairman Steve Sisolak declared. "We tried to get everything right but I think that time is going to tell what we got right and what we got wrong, what adjustments and tweaks are going to have to be made in the future."
