Intelligent travel is a learned skill. Veteran jetsetters collect countless tips and tricks that can help make any trip easier. They know the best times to book flights, how to get the best deals on lodging, and probably even how to hold onto their sanity during an 18-hour flight.
Sure, they could help you travel smarter, but what about traveling healthier? Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is enough of a challenge when you're at home, and when you're on the go, well, we all know how much harder it seems once we step outside of our ordinary environment and lose control over constants like a conveniently located gym or easy access to a grocery store that carries fresh produce.
Staying fit and eating healthy when you're on the go doesn't have to be hard, though. Fitting exercise and a balanced diet into a busy travel itinerary isn't impossible. It just takes some planning ahead and a little bit of dedication.
At least, that's how Arash Shirazi sees it. Shirazi is a frequent flyer and CEO of The Bullitt Agency, an Electronic Dance Music talent agency with headquarters in Washington, D.C., and Barcelona. He takes pride in maintaining his health and fitness despite a busy travel itinerary and a demanding daily schedule in an industry that hardly ever takes a break.
"Fitness is a priority for me," Shirazi says. "I make it a commitment on my calendar."
Whatever the reason for your next trip, instead of throwing all caution to the wind because you've stepped into an unfamiliar atmosphere, you can maintain your fitness and take care of your health using the following five easy tips.
Yes, travelling opens up lots of decadent dining opportunities, but it shouldn’t be an excuse to indulge excessively. Shirazi stays on track by carrying healthy snacks and bringing his own food when possible. Photo Credit: Shutterstock Click here to see All The Healthy Travel Tips
Shirazi says he lets himself indulge every now and then when out with clients abroad, but for the most part he avoids alcohol. “Enjoy it but practice moderation,” he explains. Photo Credit: Shutterstock
“It’s all about balance, not excess,” says Shirazi. He follows an “ayurvedic” approach to life, which encourages a dynamic balance between our environment and the mind, body and spirit. He says this helps him to maintain mindfulness and keep everything in moderation. Photo Credit: Shutterstock Click here to see All The Healthy Travel Tips
This tip applies for times when you’re on-the-go but also when you’re at home. Shirazi credits the success of maintaining many of his healthy habits to being in the constant company of friends who also place a high value on health and fitness. Photo Credit: Shutterstock
If there's an easy and safe route that leads to your destination and it's within a reasonable walking distance, ditch your ride and take advantage of the opportunity to move more. Biking is always an option, too! Photo Credit: Shutterstock Click here to see All The Healthy Travel Tips
