Every year, hundreds of millions of people visit America's national parks. They go to escape the buzz of modern urbanized life, to get outside and experience some of the world's most pristine, wild landscapes -- soaring mountains, rolling grasslands and primordial forests. But, also, they go to see wildlife.

The national parks offer stringent protections to megafauna of all variety, and therefore harbor thriving populations of North America's most impressive animals--great bison herds, howling wolf packs, ancient alligators, regal bighorn sheep, loping moose and elusive wolverines.
