Featuring a miniature interpretation of an architectural ornament from ancient Rome, this Chinese porcelain ewer was destined to become a courtly object in Western Europe. On it, the silversmith fashioned intricate straps that make a cage or frame, embracing China with antiquity. "The whole world is encapsulated in one piece," says curator Ellenor Alcorn.
