CBS Snubs Dan Rather Again: Leaves Name Off List Of Former Anchors...
This one's hard to wiggle out of: On the CBS News website, an effusive story about Katie Couric's town hall tour of America gushed about how she was poised to be "the first female solo anchor of a network weekday newscast, following such esteemed journalists as Douglas Edwards, Walter Cronkite and, most recently, Bob Schieffer." Er, somewhere in there they missed someone: Dan Rather. Page Six spotted the glaring omission and notes that there was "absolutely no mention of Rather, who was unceremoniously dumped after 44 years with CBS," where he stepped down from the anchor spot after his story on Bush's national guard record turned out to be based on faked memos. Page Six asked CBS why Rather was left out; a rep couldn't say but said "Dan is a valued part of CBS News tradition." Yes, indeed, no doubt.
