New Zealand is home to some of the most rugged and stunning landscapes on the planet. You might think you need to go on an epic, multi-day backpacking trek to get a glimpse of these incredible places - and in some cases, you'd be right - but you'd be surprised by some of the unbelievable views you can catch with just a few miles of hiking. We know it's already on your bucket list, so take a look at these 5 hikes and get ready to book your flight.

Hike along the well-marked track to catch brilliant views of Mount Aspiring National Park and Lake Wanaka. If you're hiking in the spring, autumn, or winter, this hike is best done in the morning, while in the summer aim to hike in the afternoon. Learn more.

This is a great location to catch sunset over Mount Rolleston, or a sunrise lighting up the Waimakariri Valley. In good weather, this is also a good hike for children. Learn more.

The trail ends at Brewster Hut but you can reach the summit by picking your way up the talus slopes directly behind the hut for another 2,000 ft. The reward? A sublime view of the southern alps in every direction. Learn more.

At the summit, you will be rewarded with a fantastic views of the Southern Alps and Fox Glacier as well as coastal farm land in the opposing direction. If you are lucky, you might see a Kea, which is the world's only Alpine Parrot. These birds are very charismatic and will actually hang around if you take a break near them. Learn more.

The trail varies from long, drawn out sections to switchbacks, and eventually will lead you up the top of the hill where the observatory is located, not to mention the epic views below. Learn more.
