Without any fanfare, the city of Chicago has increased the number of red light camera intersections from 104 just a few short weeks ago, to a total of 112. This net increase of eight red light cameras were active as of August 4th, according to the city's OEMC website.
I had not checked the city's OEMC red light camera location webpage recently, so to be honest, another blog I came across called Uncensored Thoughts, brought this very important piece of information to my attention.
Chicago Intersections with Red Light Cameras - UpdateThe city of Chicago website now lists 112 intersections that have a Red Light Camera. I've found 2 more that aren't on the website yet. So there are now a total of 114 cameras on the list and mapped out.
I put this website together after receiving a ticket from a red light camera as a public service so everybody knows to be extra careful at these intersections. I figured the map gave everybody a better idea of where they are located. I looked at my route to the train station every morning and know exactly which red light cameras I pass everyday.
If anyone knows of any other intersections that aren't on the list, please let me know by leaving a comment.
If anyone has the program Microsoft MapPoint and you would like a copy of the map so you can check your specific routes, leave me a comment and make sure to include your email address and I will email you the file.
He does claim there are two locations not on the city's list (Iriving & California, Irving & Kedzie), but I'm familiar with those intersections and drive by all the time and don't remember them. I'll check those out tomorrow.
I can't even begin to discern which intersections are the eight most recent.
I will try to get that info early next week. My guess is all or most of those intersections are so new, they are all in their "honeymoon" period, which is a two-week period where the cameras are active, but not issuing tickets to allow drivers to become aware of them.
Be careful out there!

I like the idea behind the cameras, but I have to admit the flashes at night are blinding and a hazard.
I absolutely hate those cameras and I don't think that they are meant for safety but rather as a revenue stream for the city. I appreciate that you are going to post where the new cameras are.
In a few years, you won't be able to leave home without being photographed or videotaped everywhere you go. That is very troubling.
Thank you for your article.

These cameras are ALL about revenue under the guise of safety. If these cameras didn't generate revenue, they would not exist.
