'What Ever Happened To Baby Hillary?'

All About Eve is a wonderful movie. The story of Eve Harrington, a covetous, lying, back stabber, and her ascension to stardom. Yet it was a central insight of Joseph Mankowitz, the writer and director of the film, that Eve wasn't merely aspiring...she was insane.

So too Hillary Clinton. Yet hers was always a tolerable, outcome-driven insanity. A Clintonian insanity, capable of deftly portraying narcissism as public service. Not anymore.

With each new lie -- and more tellingly, each new response to being caught in each new lie -- Hillary has moved beyond Eve and taken up what appears to be permanent residence as Baby Jane Hudson.

For those, like us, who despise the Clintons for no other reason than their actions, it is a perversely enjoyable time. Yes the party is being destroyed. But to see Hillary, as white-faced, bug-eyed and divorced from reality as Bette Davis' 'Baby Jane' at her most unhinged, is almost worth it.

On the off chance that Richard Dawkins is full of shit, what poetic justice it would be for Bill and Hillary to spend their remaining years shambling around the Chappaqua mansion like Baby Jane and Blanche, hurling bitter insults at each other over who cost them their loss of power.

As for the Democrats, if after eight years of being ruled by the truth obliterating psychoses of Bush and Cheney, their only answer is a husband and wife team of psychopaths, they will deserve everything they get.

Hilary Clinton, these days, reminds me more of the stalker in "Fatal Attraction". Cast off after the voters had a brief affair with her, she has decided to burn the house down of our new love, Barack Obama, hoping the inferno consumes him . Then, we will have no choice but to return to her. She will forgive us after she moves into our White House, but will use all the tools of it's previous occupant to spy on us to make certain we never go astray again.

If Obama has a pet rabbit, he best secure it in an undisclosed location.

Hillary is far from insane. Driven by ambition, yes. Given to "ends justify the means", yes. Insane, no.

Principles, facts, the democratic party - those are expendable - regaining power is worth it all.

Agreed - Hillary Clinton may be an overly ambitious person with the will to use any means to get what she wants, but that suggests that she's certainly NOT insane. It takes a lot of rational thought about how to best grab headlines to come up with some of the things she's said - or her staffers are coming up with them, but either way, it still takes a lot of rational thought to stand in front of the world and lie like a rug in order to gain attention. For anyone to act the way she has acted - even when she appears delusional - implies cut-throat sanity. She may be pathological, but pathological does not mean insane.

I think J&J raise an interesting point, along with the stakes. Hillary's accounts of her landing in Bosnia and her role in settling the Northern Ireland troubles go well beyond mere "errors" in recollection. They demonstrate an overt fabulism which suggests that she is not reality-oriented in an appropriate way. Granted, it's all psychiatry at a distance and prone to error and exaggeration, but maybe she is indeed wacko, which is about all we need at this stage of American history.
