All Your Media are Belong to Us!

Greetings. We're Blogebrity, and after watching from the sidelines for the past month and half, we've been called into the game here at the Huffington Post. Our mission: to provide you with a semi-regular guide to this thing called "the blogosphere" as it grows and matures, en route to world domination.

(Chances are if you're reading this, you've already got a decent handle on what a weblog and the blogosphere are.  If not, the Wikipedia has good definitions for Weblog and Blogosphere to bring you up to speed.)

By now, you’ve probably heard the news—bloggers are becoming like, BIG celebrities. Maybe not Paris Hilton big, but they’re getting there. (And I’m not just talking about our esteemed colleagues here at the Huffington Post.)  There are even people earning a living from blogging.

And if you're doubting that this new era of blogmania we speak of is truly drawing nigh, maybe you need to talk to Jason Calacanis and Brian Alvey (of Weblogs, Inc.). In their discussion with MIT's Technology Review, they reveal that bloggers working for their "blog empire" can earn anywhere from $100 to $3,000 a month. Sure...it's not Chappelle's Show money, but even Dave had to start somewhere, right?

As if all of this weren't enough to officially declare bloggers the new media messiahs, just Thursday one of blogging's biggest names, Jeff Jarvis, slapped a toe tag on television. Add this to the aforementioned blogsplosion, and there’s only one logical conclusion—bloggers are, without question, the new black.

The blogosphere is basically going to completely change your life in so many ways that I can't possibly begin to detail them here. Let me just say that it will definitely have something to do with something called RSS, there may be something called Podcasting involved, and I think Google factors in, somehow. Whatever the case, no one’s life will be the same once the power of the blog has been truly realized.
