Theresa Nolan

As the Division Director of NYC Programs for Green Chimneys Children’s Services, Theresa Nolan oversees foster care residential programs and homeless youth transitional programs focused on LGBTQ youth. In early 2011 Theresa helped launch a career training program for LGBTQ youth focused on nature-based careers. More recently, Theresa secured funding for a family therapy intervention program for LGBTQ youth and their families as a pilot project with NYC’s Department of Youth and Community Development. She regularly speaks about working with LGBTQ youth at forums and conferences, and conducts trainings on this and other adolescent development topics. Most recently, she co-facilitated a workshop with the NYC Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project on domestic violence and LGBTQ youth and conducted training for DYCD staff on creating affirming environments. In 2010 she was appointed to the NYC Mayor’s Commission on LGBTQ Runaway/Homeless Youth. Theresa is also a member of the Advisory Council for Bee’s Fund of the Stonewall Community Foundation, an individual grant program for young lesbian, bisexual, and transgender females.

Theresa has written articles on LGBTQ youth, being published in In The Family, Family Therapy Magazine, Child Welfare Journal, and Green Chimneys Magazine. She authored a chapter in the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s 2006 report, "LGBT Youth: An Epidemic of Homelessness," and participated in presenting trainings on the report following its publication.

Theresa holds a Master’s degree in family therapy from Syracuse University, a Bachelor’s in psychology and family studies from Central Michigan University, and has a certificate in non-profit management from Pace University/United Way of Putnam County.
