You are shocked that Bush is still getting his way on Iraq? Hello. Wake up. Don't be distracted by honking and blathering from Democrats. Of course the presidential candidates, even Hillary, are sounding stern about the Petreaus and Crocker reports and demanding deadlines and all that. They are running in the PRIMARIES, for God's sake. They know nothing is actually going to happen. Nothing is going to happen because Democrats don't want the slightest shred of responsibility dangling from their designer-label lapels for Iraq policy in the next 12 months.

Whoever wins the primaries (unless it's Kucinich; uh, sure) will back off the categorical anti-war talk and go all centrist. The main thing most Democrats want -- from the US Senate to every state legislature -- is to make sure that this disaster is hanging like an anvil around the Republican elephant's neck when election day comes.

That's the game. The rest is shell. Too bad about the dying.

Peace.

I wish we would stop the MSM version that Hilary and other Democrats voted FOR the War. If you do not recall please go back and look at the facts. Bush asked for the Authority to use force, but said that was his last resort. He wanted a strong hand to go to the UN and force inspections etc etc. He lied. Sadly, they believed him. We need to STOP saying they supported this madness. They supported a madman who had already decided to invade Iraq. (See Downing Street memo and the neocons plans for the Mideast from the late 1990's)If the MSM is going to be part of the RNC we need to speak the truth and not let them get away with it.

Dems have the responsibility to STOP THE FUNDING, thus stopping the occupation. Its going to be very clear at election time that they share the blame for this war.

Most allowed Bush to start it too

In the famous words of Homer, "DUH...."

The Dems are quite happy to let the other fellows take all the blame and grief while they win the brass ring. Of course, all the problems of the Iraq fusbar will become the Dem's problems. But it will be simple, blame the Repubs.

Well thanks for clearing that up for me about those Democrats.

You might want to glance over at Cheney LAUGHING as the War is dumped on the next administration, as he packs his luggage in Blair House. Hell he doesn't even suffer like Laura and George and cry on God's shoulder.

If what you say is true about the Democrat for president....the Convention will be UGLIER and more violent than Chicago 68.
I don't even know why Republicans are having a Convention, unless it's the call of the wild in the MPLS Airport restroom.

On the other hand, the Repuglicons are trying to kick the can down the road (that's my favorite cliche du-jour) to the probable democratic majority and presidency in '08. Then they'll spend the next 50 years blaming them for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Yes, it's all to obvious; isn't it. I saw Joe Biden yesterday insisting that he can't vote to defund the war because it will defund the new armored trucks he's working so hard to provide the troops; and they need that protection.

What a bunch of hooey. If you bring 'em home they won't need the protection. I like Biden a lot but let's face it, that's a pretty lame excuse.

Thomas de Zengotita, You have expressed my beliefs perfectly, sad to say.
Once I believed in our country.
Once I believed in our political system.
But that now seems so like "once upon a time, very long ago."

I think the wrong people are dying! Maybe if the politicians were being picked off the way Brave Young Americans are in Iraq , things would be different.
The politicians are responsible for death and pay no consequence.
Time for a new American revolution to bring about a true Democracy of the people, by the people and for the people, not the polls and media pundits.

'Generally speaking', it's much easier to get
into a war than to get out of one. Iraq is no
exception. The Repos got US into this, and in
a more perfect world, the Repos would get US
out.

If they don't, it will be up to the Demos.

Unfortunately, that won't make the process
any easier, but hopefully quicker, once we've
finally elected enough Demos to 'accomplish
the mission'. While we wait, let's try not to
blame the Demos for this amazing Repo fiasco.

Could not agree more with your blog. As Cindy Sheehan just wrote, there are two kinds of war pigs--red and blue. I sure hope she beats Pelosi.

Congressional Democrats don't care about what's best for America. They care about what's best for their careers.

And Hillary Clinton is the worst of 'em.

What gives you this special insight into their hearts and minds? Because if you know how to figure out what people really care about despite their public statements to the contrary, I'd sure appreciate your sharing the secret. I may just be slow, but I have a hard enough time being sure of what my girlfriend cares about, and she spends half the day trying to tell me.

I am Officially sick and tired of politics as of today.
When is the white house report due? Saturday? When is the first vote for refunding? Don't know, and don't care.
The fix is in.
I have literally made myself sick trying to follow this maze of lies and injustice that bush and the GOP have created.
Now I'm just tired.... hoping that my party will do the right thing...... and watching them cave in at every chance. You can bet your ass that they're positioning themselves for the election, but at what cost. They will reap what they are now sowing. They will be perceived as self serving hypocrites rather than leaders.
It's like an unending episode of "Punked".

The Democrats are not going to end this war at any time soon. Face it the DLC and the permanent DC based political consulting and media classes have throughly corrupted the Democratic party.

The Occupation will end when our troops come to this realization and engage in mass desertions, sitzkriegs or even mutiny. When you read about an entire National Guard battalion refusing to muster for thier 3rd or 4th tour of duty then the **** will have finally hit the fan.

Think that can not happen??? Well then watch the documentry on the last years of the Vietnam war call Sir! No Sir!

We are already seeing semi-confidental reports that from inside our own military that this is a very possible scenario.

There has already been over 20,000 desertions. Many of the Governors are already exchanging talking points on their critical situations of theeir own National Guards and the ability to quell civil unrest, or respond adequately in the case of an earthly disaster, or domestic attack. This Administration of a "war on terror" is imploding our Nation and putting us all at risk and at odds with each other, for what? for Who? We need to put an end to this madness. Clean the Slate in 2008! Vote them ALL OUT!! No Incumbants!!!

"Too bad about the dying," and the One Trillion dollars wasted. Yes, I care about that too. I don't have medical insurance and I'm 53 years old.
