Hillary Book Buzz Busts Out--What's In It For The Media Elite?

Alfred A. Knopf is releasing "A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham Clinton" by Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame on June 5. On June 8, Little, Brown & Company presents "Her Way: The Hopes and Ambitions of Hillary Rodham Clinton," by Jeff Gerth and Don Van Natta, well known NYTimes reporters. And The Washington Post had a preview of the contents of both books on the front page today, top of the fold.

That's pretty hefty media clout gathered behind projects that the Clinton camp does not welcome, to put it mildly. You don't have to be part of a vast right wing conspiracy to wonder why these elite media figures and outlets would want to remind the nation of the Clinton marriage and all its vicissitudes and compromises. What's their motive?

There's no mystery here. There is no vast left wing conspiracy that's getting all this scandal stuff out there again now so that, after Hillary is nominated, the country will have been inoculated against a Republican attack machine effort to do the same thing then. There is no not-so-vast David Geffen controlled media conspiracy to advance the Obama cause by raising the yuck factor that will attend the idea of Bill living in The White House once again--I mean, you know, the same rooms where, well, you know...

No, it's not anything as elaborate as all that.

It's because of money.

That's why they call it "money."
