Plan B in Iraq?

?>

Little George has always had a terrible temper. And he hates to lose. He was the kind of kid who, if you were playing 2 out of 3 and he lost 2--he would throw a tantrum until you made it 3 out of 5. And so on. Indefinitely.

In lieu of character, maybe Little George is relying on his inner brat to prop himself up now that things are getting really tough. For a while there he looked to be in meltdown. He was so dazed and subdued when he announced the new war plan from the White House Library that I was seriously wondering if he was overmedicated. But lately, I think he's been looking better. Is it just my imagination or is that nasty gleam in his eye once again?

Little George also holds grudges. It's all very personal for him. He didn't like it when Maliki stood him up for that dinner in Jordan. He's mad at Maliki. If I were Maliki, I would be very worried right now. I would notice those aircraft carriers moving into the Persian Gulf. I would notice Condi cozying up to all those Sunni autocrats in Egypt and the gulf states (no more starry-eyed talk about democracy now). And I would remember the long=standing ties between those same autocrats and the Bush dynasty, the Carlyle group and oil companies.

And of course I would know that Sunni Arabs commonly refer to Shia Arabs as "Iranians."

Hmmm....

Could this "Surge" be a set-up? Or, when it fails (when Maliki does not disarm Shia militias) could it be turned into a set-up?

Is Little George contemplating siding with the Sunnis? Is he thinking he could save this whole mad enterprise, squash Maliki and Moqtada and bomb Iran--all in one fell swoop? Talk about a gamble. Is he leafing through a dossier of potential Sunni strong man this evening looking for his very own Saddam?

Is that Little George's New Year's resolution?
