A short post here, a word of warning:
Yes, it is a gift, this glimpse of the truth about the Republican right that the looney Richard Mourdock has provided -- and with Akin's "legitimate rape" remark still fresh in many minds. And it is so much fun (for us) to talk in tones of faux amazement about these guys. Their boundless sanctimony is mesmerizing. It is a well nigh irresistible topic (for us).
But let's not take our eye off the ball. For a lot of low-information young women voters in swing states who are STILL undecided (which tells you a lot about what "low information" means), Romney could come out of this little binge looking like the "moderate" he is now selling himself as. I'm not kidding. We are in danger of collaborating with cultural-political moment in which ONLY wanting to overturn Roe v. Wade might look to some people like the "middle" on abortion.
That must not happen. If it does, Romney could get a pass on the one issue that has always been most likely to sink him.
So let's get back to his position on Roe v. Wade going into the final days. Wanting to undo a woman's right to choose is the radical right position -- and Romney has taken it.
Period.
