Dr. Thomas G. Long is the Bandy Professor of Preaching and the Coordinator of the Initiative in Religious Practice and Practical Theology at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Dr. Long's research interests are contemporary homiletical theory, biblical hermeneutics and preaching. His most recently completed research surrounds the theology and practice of Christian funerals, culminating in his 2009 book, "Accompany Them with Singing: The Christian Funeral."

The author of 19 books to date, Long is a frequent contributor to The Christian Century and the Journal for Preachers, and a popular presenter at preaching conferences worldwide.

In 1996, Dr. Long was named one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-speaking world by Baylor University. Prior to receiving his Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary he received his B.A. and M.Div. from Erskine Seminary. He is also an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and currently serves as the chair of the Day1 Advisory Board.
