"YOU DECIDE. Republican gubernatorial candidates triumphed in Virginia and New Jersey on Tuesday -- two states where President Obama had campaigned hard for the Democratic candidates. Are Republican victories in New Jersey and Virginia a referendum on President Obama and his administration?"

-FoxNews.com Poll, 11/03/2009

YES. The gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia were absolutely a referendum on the Obama administration. President Obama is a Democrat, and both losers in those races are also Democrats. Referendum, ipso facto.

As Arizonan 'zona70' posted on FoxNews.com, “Clearly America is waking up and rejecting Obama’s Marxism. NEW JERSEY elects a republican gov – that is a statement…” Indeed it is. The hotbed of liberalism known as the Garden State hasn’t had a Republican governor since 2002, when Christine Todd Whitman left Drumthwacket to join the Bush administration.

Oh, this was a referendum, all right—perhaps the biggest referendum on political philosophy since the year 2008, when a record 131 million Americans turned out to send a strong message to Washington, the nature of which neither of us fully recall.

But we obviously can’t stop with Virginia and New Jersey. These governor’s races were just two of many referenda held this week, most of which have received little attention due to mainstream-media bias. As usual, we bloggers must step boldly into the breach.

In a referendum on hysterical conservatives, Democrat Bill Owens took the Congressional seat of New York’s 23rd District, prompting Glenn Beck to crow about . . . the Republican victories in New Jersey and Virginia.

The Dow climbed 0.31% on Wednesday in a referendum on the news that Obama had lost a referendum, closing at 9802.14, more than 97% of what it was just two weeks ago.

In a referendum on homosexuality, voters in Maine repealed a law permitting gay marriage, delighting homophobes nationwide. In a referendum on homosexuality, voters in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, elected an openly gay activist mayor, crushing the spirits of Triangle-area homophobes. In a re-referendum on homosexuality, voters in Washington re-confirmed the recent extension of domestic-partnership rights to same-sex couples, re-devastating northwestern homophobes and causing a family of Canadians in nearby Vancouver to smile shyly.

In a referendum on Rob’s earnest efforts to recycle his trash, the municipal authorities of Cambridge, MA, left several large pieces of cardboard just sitting there in front of the house. It remains unclear how much time these bastards expect us to spend cutting our cardboard boxes into tiny pieces and stacking them neatly on the curb.

In a referendum on the Norse gods Odin, Tyr, and Freyr, New York City's 19th District elected alleged pagan Dan Halloran to the office of City Council Representative. It remains unclear what Queens residents will now have to do in order to get their recycling taken away.

In back-to-back referenda on vampire erotica, Evangeline Anderson’s Secret Thirst slid several spots to #158,729 in Amazon.com Sales Rank, while Cecilia Tan’s edited volume Blood Surrender plummeted to a depressing #301,051. Noteworthy, however, is that this development did not put off Customer Reviewers such as Cecilia Tan, who assured Amazon.com shoppers that “I picked out the stories in this nthology [sic] so of course I think they are great.”

In a referendum on education rooted in “a rock-solid commitment to Biblical truth and morality,” Liberty University remained mired in Tier 4 of US News & World Report’s 2010 edition of America’s Best Colleges. The leftist propaganda machine wins again! What’s wrong with a college that accepts 96.2% of applicants and grants its BS in Biology to students who have never taken a class in evolution? The liberal media, that’s what’s wrong.

We could go on, but is there any need? All of this clearly points in one direction, and one direction only. As Tennessean 'triciald' wrote on the FoxNews boards, “Finally america is waking up and taking back AMERICA.This is not OBAMERICA!!!! I hope more people do the same.”

Amen.
