Dennis Kucinich Sums It Up

Dennis Kucinich deserves our thanks today.

I'm not a disgruntled supporter from the primaries. I agreed with most of what he had to say, but it was obvious he wasn't going to be the nominee.

No, he deserves our thanks and gratitude for standing on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives this afternoon and reading the thirty-five Articles of Impeachment of George W. Bush.

Even those who say, "We must look forward, we know how bad the Bush administration has been, but why waste our time on this," must stop and listen.

The breadth and length of Kucinich's articles are astonishing. They sum up Bush's evil reign succinctly and to hear them recited been said on the floor of Congress makes me wonder how American could have possibly put up with this despotic murderer and thief for so long.

He should be impeached and removed. He won't be. I can understand why the current Democratic leadership, in its myopic lack of vision takes what they think is the safe political stance. I also understand that they don't want to distract the electorate during an election.

But 75% of the American public thinks he's a rotten president and a large percentage of that public think he's the worst president in American history.

I don't think we should shut up about that.

Bush should not be able to just leave office and slink on back to Texas or Kuwait or wherever he's going to end up and live off the millions made from the blood of American soldiers.

Is there anybody here who wouldn't send him to jail?

I know our nightmare is about to be over, but I do not forgive.

When I was brought up into a middle-class household, it was appropriate and encouraged to teach children to be polite, respectful and compliant as far as dealings with adults in general. Sometimes it proved to be a problem, as when adults didn’t behave as they should, or with “strangers”. However, it wasn’t at all unusual for strangers to be kind to children, and not be suspected of foul play. Today everyone’s motives are “suspected” and innocent gestures are misconstrued. Even though, we were always to treat the others kindly, and to always be polite. This leads me to my next point, that in today’s world, kindness and good manners are considered a sign of weakness, and a liability. A man or a group of men with bad manners and a good working knowledge of good manners, could conceivably perpetrate the crime of the century and get away scot-free, as long as those with good manners are in denial about the reality and depth of the bad manners in play. Psychologists could probably predict the magnitude of the lies necessary to escape detection; “no-one could even THINK of committing a crime like that”. Something SO horrible and SO heinous that the devil would blush….anyone who would even suggest what has taken place would be a sick bastard, a remorseless conspiracy nutball, or WORSE! A SYMPATHIZER!

You're confusing manners with morals. "Bad manners" are a violation of the rules of etiquette; criminal and/or immoral behavior are a violation of the rule of law and/or society's moral code. Someone who doubts that people can be evil does so out of basic goodness, not out of politeness.

A few years ago a young woman I worked with was telling another young woman and me about a man who had physically abused his children. The second woman said "How rude!" but she was wrong. Violence is not rude, it is much worse. Rudeness is merely being impolite. Violence is criminal.

Dennis did a great job. As the clerks read the declaration for hours on C-SPAN, I was so drawn to it that I could not change the channel. It was totally worth the 4 hours LIVE that I watched. Thanks Dennis. If the leadership would only take this seriously. There was very little publicity by the MSM.

35 Articles and each one could stand alone. The magnitude and number of crimes was presented very well and I,too, was drawn to keep watching C-Span until the end.

Why isn't this story getting more than rolled-eyeball snippets in the media? Don't answer that.

Thank you Dennis Kucinich! (and Robert Wexler)...Now, John Conyers, DO SOMETHING besides burying this.

Added to McClellan's and Bugliosi's books, these articles must be why Bush is starting to say, to UK reporters, that he feels real bad about our soldiers and maybe he should have spoken less- (Bring It On!) - forcefully....

I'm going to quote the Declaration of Independence AGAIN about what to do about Bush if the cowards in DC won't impeach, we the people need to do what is our patriotic duty to do:

Now that (Obama/Kucinich `08) would be a dream ticket, given that these are the only 2 2008 Democratic candidates with the chutzpah to unapologetically oppose the Iraq War from Day 1. They may not agree on the Afghan War or single-payer universal health care, but at least they have concrete common ground to build a movement rivalling the spark envisioned by Mao Tse-Tung's maxim, "A single spark can start a prairie fire." The problem is that Obama declared yesterday or earlier that he wants nothing to do with any impeachment movement against Bush. There's another critical area where I part company with Obama, mais c'est la vie, mes amis. Does David Axelrod or Caroline Kennedy even have Kucinich on the VP radar? They'd best get on the ball pronto! Anti-war activists were way ahead of the game in 2002 long before any of this insanity ever started. There was no "bad intelligence" in this scandal. Our MSM & 2 major political parties colluded to lie to the American people who were willing to accept these bold-faced lies without blinking an eye. Shame on all these pseudo-citizens. Let them rot in their own waste and choke on the consequences.

Everyone knows that the GOP's Impeachment of Bill Clinton was payback to the Dem's for Nixon's dishonorable resignation. The GOP was waiting for any chance no matter how small to give it to a Democratic President when they could. I think the real reason that impeachment is "off the table" is because the Dem's don't want another ridiculous "payback" from the GOP. Which is in reality a chicken poop excuse, I say Impeach Impeach Impeach or at least do everything you can to send Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Wolfawitz, Rice, all of them to trial in The Hague, Netherlands.

The real reason the Dems won't pursue impeachment is because the Dem leadership are complicit in Bush's crimes. If an impeachment were to proceed the things that would fall out of the trees involving Pelosi, Rockefeller and others in congress responsible for oversight would be damning. Pelosi took impeachment off the table to protect her own miserable ass.

Dennis Kucinich is a man who cares nothing about the repercussions of doing what's right, fair and just. For that simple fact, he's not a viable candidate for the Presidency; there are important factors in the Oval Office which he would be ill-suited to manage.

That said, I wish we could clone him for a lot of other positions in government.

I TOTALLY disagree. Having been an avid supporter of DK for over six years I can safely attest to his sober ability to judge what is right, fair and just - and to accordingly behave. His legislative record is unimpeachable and his service to the country is emblematic of how an American politician should behave.

Yes, he is short of stature. Yes, he has large ears. Yes, he has claimed to have seen a UFO. Dismissing him for those traits or beliefs demonstrates what is wrong with American politics. We can assign extra credibility to a candidate based on gender, race or previous political affiliation but we are impervious to well-reasoned political debate and allow the MSM to marginalize a candidate because he or she doesn't fit into convenient pigeon holes.

Dennis Kucinich would not dress up the Oval Office as well as Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. But he would serve the country as well or better than either of those candidates.

I believe you're negatively misinterpreting my statement. As a supporter of and volunteer for Dennis Kucinich's last TWO presidential candidacies, rest assured there is no venom in my words.

As an example of my point that you quoted, when Congressman Kucinich was mayor of Cleveland, he was under intense pressure from big city officials and the mafia to sell Muni Light, a publicly-owned utility company, to a privately held corporation called Cleveland Electrical Illuminating Co., now a subsidary of FirstEnergy. Had this sale gone through, the rates for millions of customers would not be secure and could be raised at anytime, even though the company promised lower rates to sweeten public opinion of the deal.

Kucinich refused, and after escaping a mafia assassination attempt at the Columbus Day Parade in (I believe) 1979 by luckily getting too sick to go, he let CEI bankrupt the city, rather than cave to their demands. Dennis Kucinch was loathed by most citizens of Cleveland until the truth was revealed, some time later. 13 years after that he was elected to the Ohio State Senate and most Cleveland voters were disappointed he didn't accept their invitation to run again for mayor.

If this isn't an example of a person doing what's "right, fair and just," caring "nothing of the repercussions" of doing so, you tell me what is.

As I understand it, the Dems have been appearing to wuss on Bush's transgressions not because they're simply incompetent and guilty of dereliction of duty, but for a reason that actually makes them more evil than George W. Bush and his cronies, IMO. They've seen the wrongs accrue and fester, and even supported them; they've sent thousands of US citizens to be killed in an unjust, insane war; they've helped shred the Constitution; and they've abetted the bankrupting of this country for the past 7+ years. But you knew that. They've done it to ensure extreme and widespread disgust and anger with the Republicans, leading to Democratic victories at the polls. They reaped the rewards of sitting on their hands 2006, justifying their "two wrongs make right" calculus, and why mess with a good thing when you're just about to cash out and score the biggest coup? If this is, in fact, what's behind their inaction, they should all be impeached. It's monstrous.

As a lifelong Democrat, this is shocking and sickening, but at least it explains the "impeachment is off the table" edict that Pelosi issued as she stepped into the Speaker role. That never made sense until now.

We should thank God for Dennis Kucinich, and find more like him to replace those who think the Party's majority justifies what they've done, and allowed to be done, to this country.

PennP: Sorry, but it's kinda hard to believe that a "lifelong" Democrat would come to the conclusions you have!! Life long Democrats are outraged and frustrated by the inability to get BushCo "under control". However, what part of not having enough votes to over-ride Bush's veto's do you not understand?

If you want to blame someone, put the blame squarely where it belongs----on the Republicans in the Senate, in the House of Reps., and on Geo. Bush. That is where the blame belongs, not on allegations that the Dems. have deliberately "done nothing" to end the insanity! Geez---- why not give credit (and/or blame) where it's due?

BTW, since there's been no overt revolt by the populace, it's just a tad difficult to get anything done with King George still occupying the throne, along with 50% of the Senate being Republican (that includes Lie-berman).

Get a grip before you go out and do something stupid, like voting for McCain.

Telly, they don't know the votes they could have until they float the legislation. Compellingly presented and worked like heck behind the scenes, who knows--but perhaps even trying is beyond their ken. Pelosi's ruling out impeachment from the get-go, with no explanation at all, has always struck me as highly improper and undemocratic. This explains it, unfortunately. Let the government go to hell, do nothing, blame the opposition party, and reap the rewards come November. Trouble is, it doesn't teach anyone a damn thing about governing or leadership, does it? It's foul and Machiavellian, and just because it's done by our party doesn't make it any less so. To fail to see it for what it is is to sanction the behavior.

The Democrats have aided and abetted just about all of the wrongs committed against this country in the past 16 years. The blame belongs on them--on us--just as much as it does on Republicans. The unapologetic, shameless lack of courage and leadership from both parties is deeply depressing. They ALL need to be held to much higher standards, and we need to stop playing along as moral relativist enablers.

It would be really great if Spkr Pelosi would get as involved in actually governing our country as she is in Party politics. What the Bushies have done to our Constitution is criminal, but the recourse is through the very processes set out in it. Impeachment is not a political ploy at this point, it is a must in order for us to protect our government. The last time someone said "Impeachment is off the table" we spawned the current crop of Addington, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al. who worked for Nixon and took note of the inaction. Who are we spawning this time and how much further will they go?
