Dennis Kucinich deserves our thanks today.
I'm not a disgruntled supporter from the primaries. I agreed with most of what he had to say, but it was obvious he wasn't going to be the nominee.
No, he deserves our thanks and gratitude for standing on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives this afternoon and reading the thirty-five Articles of Impeachment of George W. Bush.
Even those who say, "We must look forward, we know how bad the Bush administration has been, but why waste our time on this," must stop and listen.
The breadth and length of Kucinich's articles are astonishing. They sum up Bush's evil reign succinctly and to hear them recited been said on the floor of Congress makes me wonder how American could have possibly put up with this despotic murderer and thief for so long.
He should be impeached and removed. He won't be. I can understand why the current Democratic leadership, in its myopic lack of vision takes what they think is the safe political stance. I also understand that they don't want to distract the electorate during an election.
But 75% of the American public thinks he's a rotten president and a large percentage of that public think he's the worst president in American history.
I don't think we should shut up about that.
Bush should not be able to just leave office and slink on back to Texas or Kuwait or wherever he's going to end up and live off the millions made from the blood of American soldiers.
Is there anybody here who wouldn't send him to jail?
I know our nightmare is about to be over, but I do not forgive.
Will update links as they become available.

Its time to do a complete housecleaning in Washington ... time to get rid of all those people who are elected to do the people's business but refuse to do it ... time for the people to take back its government. STOP voting over and over again for the same old people, and sticking them back in Washington to do the same old thing ... nothing. If you want a different result elect different people. Obama is soooo right. Change is about the people waking up and taking back their government. It begins with electing him, but then the hard work really begins. The first person to go should be Nancy Pelosi ... she failed the people miserably ... big time ... there aren't enough words to describe what a sad and sorry non-leader of the people she turned out to be. The people gave her and the Democrats a mandate to end the war amongst other things and they have failed miserably ... miserably. DO NOT KEEP PUTTING THE SAME OLD PEOPLE BACK IN WASHINGTON. New blood is needed.
While the current regime has made it nearly impossible to follow through with impeachment, this is an important gesture and a moment in history. It is not an action that cold be completed but it will be followed up with criminal charges after this bunch leaves office.
Rep. Kucinich shines with integrity-- it is significant that he is the one who has taken this step. Let's hope it is followed through until there is a call to account that goes right to the top. Criminal charges.
If Bush were impeached, some SOB would pardon him just like Nixon was let off the hook. I think it is best to freeze the articles of impeachment until they leave office and then pursue a war crimes trial for the whole bunch. His power to initiate war on Iran or others must be curtailed. There is an article on Alternet today titled "Attack Iran ? Cheney's Already Tried" by Gareth Porter, IPS News which give details of the opposition of DOD and the joint Chiefs of Staff which prevented implementation of his plan. Bush/Cheney are drunk with power and greed and must be kept in check until they leave office-- letting them slip out the side door is not good enough retribution for the murderous rampage which their lies released upon the world and our own citizens.
is ther retrocactive impeachment?
Why not wait until we clean house in DC? Can't they be convicted for the crimes committed while in office? The who would pardon them? Crimes were committed. No one is above the law. It's that simple.
Those executive previlages are removed if an impeachment takes place. Therefore, his abilities to pardon his staff and himself won't work.
too late its going to happen anyway. sometime before now and november bush is going to try something to tripup the election going to the democrats. he will pardon everybody then resign and cheney will pardon him.
What frightens me almost as much as the prospect of Congress failing to act upon this resolution is the likelihood that our nation's supposedly "liberal" mainstream corporate media organizations will ignore Kucinich's resolution entirely, thus preventing the American public from engaging in a necessary consideration of and debate about the merits of the case for impeachment.
As Thomas Jefferson said, "Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government; whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights."
If an impeachment resolution falls on the floor of the House of Representatives, and nobody gets to hear about it, all it does is annoys....
Don't worry-- the judicial is working on criminal charges.
I think 'liberal' mainstream corporate media" is an oxymoron.
Perhaps what you mean is that we'll need to inform ourselves on this one. Perhaps we have in the last 8 years failed in our responsibility a bit. But we the people can READ. We don;t need to rely on vacuous talking heads for our information.
the media will treat it as an "in other news..." "and now back to dissecting democraphics and fist bumps." and then giggle with glee.
pathetic
The trolls & their paymasters must be laid up by the heat in the Mid-Atlantic states. I haven't seen the usual deluge of Dennis is a nut comments & nobody's picked up on the blog on CAPITOL HILL BLUE or whatever that Rep Kuchinch is the laughing stock of the House. Could it be that Dennis is having a lucid interval, is crazy like a fox or W & loony Bruce, aka Sure Shot Cheney, are psychopaths & sociopaths & must be confined to the booby hatch at Balmy Beach?
While Speaker Pelosi may not show any symptoms listed in the latest ed of DSM, it's time that the voters of her district retire her by voting in Cindy Sheehan or the Democrats in the House remove her as Speaker of the House asap. This can't wait till the Congress reorganizes in '09. Nobody would object to Nancy Pelosi resigning to save face. The same goes for Sen Reid. They would enjoy retirement in their harvest years.
Simple. Our Congressmen don't actually care about the Constitution; just about their personal political futures. At least there's ONE that's paying attention and standing up for the rule of the law. Thank you, sir.
Many of them do care. And they have not forgotten. This is a step to recognise there has been wrongdoing (to say the least).
Our congress people have been in a near-impossible situation, unable to risk shutting down the government for 16 months while impeachment proceedings take place. But they have not forgotten the irresponsibility and even outright criminality of this regime.
Legal action will follow and there will be accountability. This is an important symbolic and historic gesture. Make way for criminal charges. May they reach to the top!
I hope you are right and that there will be a follow through on this. People are blaming the Dems for not taking this up, but the shame is that Congress is not taking this up. Impeachment shouldn't be a partisan issue. Reps should be held accountable also.
I completely agree.
Thank you Dennis.
What about you, what are you gonna do to get this done? Here are some suggested actions...
There are four things you can do right now to support him and to make this happen.
1. I ask that you PLEASE contact Rep. Kucinich and thank him for his leadership and patriotism. Please take a moment and give him a call and show your support. You can call his DC office at this number (202)225-5871.
2. Contact Speaker Pelosi at this number and ask her for her support and action. You can call her DC office at this number 202-225-0100.
3. Contact both of your Senators and your Representative and let them know you support this. You can search for all of your US elected officials by entering your zip code at www.votesmart.org.
4. You can go to democrats.com and see the news on this. You can sign a variety of petitions there.
Gaia, Wow. Thank you !!!
Thank you so much for providing this info. Interestingly enough according to Pelosi's office the Articles for Impeachment have already been taken OFF the table. It hasn't even been 24 hours and the Democractic party is once again worrying more about an election year than the counrty itself. Perhaps the word hypocracy comes to mind? Do our leaders not fathom why we loathe government and everything is says it stands for?
Thank goodness for Tom and his writing to this issue. We must stop this President from escaping into his happy-little-life, after destroying our counrty and our democracy. He deserves to be held accountable. It's ironic we will impeach a President for sex yet for all the reasons Kucinich has brought before us we turn our backs. I searched all morning to even find info on last nights presentation by Kucinich and of course it was not on main stream media at all. The media has once again let us down. The same way they did starting with 911 and all it's unanswered questions and of course this war and the dismantling of our government and our counrty in it's process. At some point the people have to take our media and our government back.
Thank goodness for the likes of Huffington as a media willing to speak to truth and those who chose to listen.
Thank goodness for Tom and his article and Gaia and her tools to make things happen.
You are kidding me/
Already OFF the table again?
I can't stand that woman.
What a let down.
Thank you for that information. I just picked up the phone and called his office. This man is a TRUE patriot and a hero.
thank you for the info -I just called to thank Congressman Kucinich for his courage and true patriotism. His staff is great too!
Here is a chance for Republicans to distance themselves from Bush, for real.
The votes may finally be there for impeachment.
never happen. they need bush to fill there coffers.
God Bless America (and Dennis Kucinich!) Fianlly someone has the balls and the brains to call this administration what it is...the most corrupt and CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT in our history. Bush is guilty of RAPING our national treasury. He is a WAR CRIMINAL. He has PERVERTED our justice system. This man should be held accountable - and probably in prison, but we will settle for having him removed from office. If ever there was a case for IMPEACHMENT in our national history - this is it. God damn this administration - GOD BLESS AMERICA. Dennis Kucinich is a true patriot.
Yes, Yes Yes !!!
Um - isn't he the one that had a conversation with an alien?????
OK - You're an idiot for repeating a Repub lie and thinking it's funny.
No, he did not have a conversation with an alien.
He saw something in the night sky and concluded it was alien in nature... big effing deal!
And for this we should not listen to his indictment of the war criminal in chief?
Like I said, you're an idiot.
Actually, he concluded it was "unidentified" in nature, which makes the previous comment even more stupid.
Some people WANT to remain ignorant.
When Tim Russert tossed that nefarious bomb of a question to him, "Have you ever seen a UFO?" , Kucinich should have snapped back : "Yes, I have seen one, and I hope to see one more, to catch up to Ronald Reagan, who saw two."
That might have short circuited the kind of brainless disparagement typified by this post.
Amen.
The fact that he won't be impeached will guarantee the media won't cover it.
But the fact is, on the merits, he SHOULD be impeached.
I think the opposite is true: the fact that the media won't cover it guarantees that he won't be impeached.
"I know our nightmare is about to be over"...................
You don't know that. Bush and Cheney are still at large and they are armed and dangerous. I am supporting Obama and Cindy Sheehan.
Are you Dot 48? The same Dot 48 who spews hatred for Obama on TM, Hillary 44 etc.
Kucinich is the one!
When he dropped out, I supported HRC.
The only thing that could get me interested in this presidential bid now is an Obama/Kucinich ticket!
That and saving our country from more corruption and wrong-headedness!
Kucinich is a clear voice for doing the right thing. He will have a role in the next administration, even if it is behind the scenes.
I've heard him speak and met him. He is a force to be reckoned with and he speaks with reason.
Kucinich has my support, and I am a Conservative Republican. I hope Pelosi will follow the law, along with all the other "Law Makers" in Congress, and do their jobs correctly. Political correctness does not always make you do the right thing, let's hope our Congress has moved beyond that and they follow our Constitution, and the law of the land and impeach Mr. Bush for all the laws he has broken. I give thanks to Mr. Kucinich for his courage, and for speaking the truth that the rest of the world knows. Our citizens have been taken for a long hard expensive ride by George Bush, and now is the time to stop it, do not wait until after the election season is over, it will be too late then.
"it was obvious he wasn't going to be the nominee."
And why was it obvious. A lot of people said they would vote for him if he had a chance but...............wah wah wah.
A person will NEVER have a chance if supporters don't vote for him instead of mumbling they would but, wah wah wah.
What was that about the MSM not annointing a candidate? This is the guy who had to SUE to be allowed into a debate!
Exactly.
Now please.
When those HRC supporters, most of who are not supporting Obama talk about the media bias... not blaming media bias for loss mind you, just talking about its very real impact please speak up and stop blowing them off and insulting them.
They have a point and should be respected.
It is disingenuous to point out how horrible the media is (and it is) and deny it in thios one case. That is even more infuriating than the bias itself.
not you personally, just saying.
;-)
NBC, the DNC and a Las Vegas Superior Court judge made it obvious.
Thanks for discussing this! IMHO Pelosi et al are complicit with Bush as long as they do not impeach.

I am so done with Pelosi.
What a let down she is.
