President Obama, Vice President Webb, Sen Majority Leader Clinton

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

All things point to Barack Obama winning the Democratic nomination for President after March 4. Should that happen, the Democrats should do the following:

1. Clinton should concede and allow Obama a clear shot at McCain from then on.
2. Obama should make Sen. James Webb of Virginia his VP, thus taking the military aspect out of the campaign. McCain may have served in Vietnam, but Webb has sons IN IRAQ.
3. The Democrats should make sure that Clinton is elected Majority Leader of the Senate replacing the ineffective Harry Reid.

Imagine what America would be like with Obama as President, Webb as VP, Hillary Clinton as Senate Majority Leader and the subsequent cabinet.

Will all of our problems end? Of course not. Will we have a shot at making America be what it should be? Yes, a shot.

The haters, the polluters, the war mongers and thieves can't be eliminated, but they can be limited.

Just over the hill, there may be sunshine. Not heaven, but enough light to allow us to see our better selves.

I was hoping Wesley Clark would be VP
(a Clinton supporter could heal the ticket, and Clark knows that Obama is tough on foreign policy. See Stein's article at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/19/cia-operation-similar-to-_n_87433.html)
and Obama's efforts on the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act of 2007.

Clark would be a hell of a lot better choice than Webb. So would almost anybody else.

No Webb. He's not a progressive. He's not a liberal. He's barely even a Democrat. He rolls over for the NeoCons at every opportunity. He has not cast the correct votes on any national security or defense bills. He told a story about what he was going to do when he was elected, and the story was a lie.

Please refute these assertions if you can. Let's see a link to one vote Webb has cast to stop the Bush administration's descration of the Constitution. Let's see a link to one vote he has cast that has been on the side of the peace movement. Has he even voted against torture? I would be surprised.

He did snarl at the President. He gets points for that. Now he's up to about 12%

No Webb. The primaries represent the triumph of progressivism. None of the major candidates have NOT been progressives. So now you suddenly want Obama to choose a CONSERVATIVE as his VP candidate? That is just an atrociously bad idea. Just atrociously bad. Conservatism has conclusively refuted itself with 7 long and dreary years of fucking up everything it touched, and you want to throw it a lifeline by sending Webb to the White House? Do you have a secret need to fail, or what?

Oh, but there's the Webb-military connection. Right. War hero. Son in Iraq (Still? I thought he was back.) That will defuse McCain's military connection. Because that same identical tactic worked SO OUTSTANDINGLY WELL for Kerry. Right?

Is it some kind of violation of ideology for us to learn from our mistakes? Tom? Yes, I'm talking to you. Do you have a neurotic need to offer the electorate Repig Lite instead of real progressive policies and ideals? Have you noticed that Repig Lite never wins against real Repig?

You need to seriously rethink this idea, because it is the worst one you have had in a very, very long time.

"The primaries represent the triumph of progressivism."

Oh man, I think you are misreading that. If Democrats put up what is viewed as 2 "progressives" on the ticket, they risk losing independents to McCain.

"Because that same identical tactic worked SO OUTSTANDINGLY WELL for Kerry. Right?"

Actually, Kerry did OK. The election was hardly a blowout. And you forget that that same identical tactic worked quite well for Bill Clinton. When there were questions about his lack of military experience, he put someone who had been in Vietnam on the ticket.

What about Joe Biden for VP? He's a senior guy in the senate, and would add seniority to the Obama mix, where Webb just got elected to the Senate last year.

"Edwards as sup judge or AG." Or Edwards on supreme court and eventually Chief Justice. The repubs would have a fit of course. Get used to it! Bwah ha haaa! I haven't felt this positive since before Chimpy. Ms. Clinton won't quit though, at least not yet. I do think that baring fraud or other shenanigans Obama has it and that Clinton would make a great Senate Majority leader regardless of when she decides to fold.

The real fight is just beginning of course. Remember that Obama got no votes in Harlem! We don't just have to win we have to win with such an overwhelming majority that it would be obvious even to the MSM. Time for everyone to start getting involved: http://www.barackobama.com/

Fortunately, that kind of majority is on tap. I would just love to see Edwards go to the Supreme Court. That's my idea of a real pleasant fantasy.

I'd make Sen. Edwards sec. of labor - we can use some serious constitutional law heads for the court, and that is not Edwards' strength... And Dodd for AG, Biden at state and Zinni for VP, Nunn at defense

1) VP - should be a governor or past governor. Of current Super Delegates - here are some ideas (no particular order): Ritter (CO), Napolitano (AZ), Easley (NC), Bredeson (TN), Henry (OK) and Kaine (VA). Or if you want to go out on a limb that would confound the Republican party and show even strong leadership - go not with gubernatorial experience but with Cabinet experience - Colin Powell (wouldn’t ever happen - but that would be a dream ticket, in my opinion).

2) Sec of State - Bill Richardson. He is the epitome of who should hold this position

3) Sec of Defense - Wes Clark or Senator Webb (VA) - someone who has had a military background.

4) Attorney General - John Edwards

5) Sec of Labor - Gerald McEntee (AFSCME) or John Sweeney (AFL-CIO) or Andy Stern (SEIU) ... let's have a labor leader as secretary of Labor

6) Sec of Agriculture - Senators Grassley or Harkin of Iowa

Problem with Tim Kaine as VP, though (for Democrats)- would put the Republican Lt Governor in the seat. But you would have VA republicans really conflicted on whether to vote for McCain (Republican President) or Obama (Republican Governor).

Another interesting trend in VA - in the last 8 elections for Governor - whichever party is in the White House during a VA Gubernatorial election - the opposite party wins the Governor's office.

Oh good. Sure, let's have a NeoCon for VP. God, and I thought Webb was a bad choice.

Remarkably, your other choices are right on. Except Stern, he's too important to the labor movement. Grassley at Ag would at least get him out of the Senate. Might be worth it, especially if he was fired after a year.

Chris Dodd would make a much better Majority Leader than Clinton. She has shown what she's all about time and time again. Dodd has actually fought the GOP instead of triangulating and capitulating to them at every turn due to a lack of political courage.

Not so fast with that Webb idea...he was among the 19 that voted to give telecoms immunity.
That's strike 3...Dodd for senate leader.

It's not just that Webb has sons in Iraq. He's a decorated war hero, and a former Republican Secretary of the Navy under Reagan. And he's been a vocal opponent of the war since before the invasion.

Plus, the electoral map makes sense. With Warner the likely winner of the 2008 VA Senate race, Webb on the ticket could swing a solidly Republican state (in presidential politics) to the Democrats.

He's been a vocal opponent of the war, but he has never voted against the war in any way, shape, or form. He's all mouth and no action. No Webb.

Lincoln Chafee? Anyone? I would love that ticket. Chafee is an ex-Republican, and one of the most respected senators. He's a well-respected man and would really bring together the "bringing America together" theme.

What has Chafee done for any of the candidates or for the Democratic Party? Sometimes he's voted with us. Better than Webb.

He endorsed Obama. And he was the only Republican who voted against the war.

It would be interesting to have a guy named Lincoln running as the VP for our first African-American President.

I'm a little leery of removing any Democrats from the Senate (or the House), for fear of a Republican getting in the way Burr got Edwards seat here in NC (for which I still haven't forgiven Edwards). Aren't there any decent retiring Democratic governors that could run for Veep?

I like Webb ( the young crazy McCain) and Tim Kaine (Obama Kaine sounds good) I like Sebilus, I also like ...Hagel (he knew enough to vote against the war) and Bloomberg (he wants to be the next FDR). Edwards as sup judge or AG. 40 years of Edwards on the Bench would be amazing.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:09 PM on 02/19/2008

Edwards on the Supreme Court would be nice, but in 40 years he would be 94 years old. Perhaps 30 years would be more likely.

Edwards as VP, AG or the court would be great.
