Tom Hughes is the Executive Director of DFA. Prior to joining DFA, Tom was a volunteer, an advance man, a fundraiser, a field director, a state party executive director, and a campaign manager. His first political job was for Sen. Lloyd Bentsen in the 1988 campaign, and he's had the pleasure of working for Al Gore, Doug Racine, and Howard Dean. And, yes, he has worked on winning campaigns. Tom celebrated Election Night '96 in Little Rock after working for President Bill Clinton's re-election. And he helped orchestrate the inaugural ceremonies for Governor Tom Harkin of Iowa and Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania . Over 500 current public officials owe part of their election success to Democracy for America 's support -- and Tom has been proud to direct the political action committee's endorsement process for more than three years. Prior to his start in politics Tom was an avid rock climber and cyclist. Some day he will be again!
