Baby, it's cold outside! So now it's time as Detroiters to act on helping those who are trying to make it through this winter. Think THAW!

The Keros Family, owners of the American Coney Island, the landmark institution of almost 100 years, are doing just that. With the help of local celebs and WWJ Radio this will be the 9th annual fundraiser to help those that are in need of heat and electricity.

Grace Keros told me she got involved at the start by donating her famous Coney Kits to contributors and feeding the volunteers at the Radiothon fundraiser with WWJ Radio nine years ago. This year, Grace has payed it forward quite a bit more by hosting the first-ever Coneys for a Cause for THAW, The Heat And Warmth Fund that has been helping our neighbors in need help pay their electricity bills for the past 26 years.

The one-day event at American Coney Island, located at the corner of Lafayette and Michigan in Detroit, will be Tuesday, Jan. 24, between 11a.m. and 2 p.m. Local celebs like Fox 2's Charlie Le Duff and WXYT Talk Radio's Charlie Langton will be serving Coneys, and I'll be taking my shift between 11 a.m. and noon. A portion of the day's take goes to THAW so come hungry, bring lots of friends, or make a Coney run for the office, if not the entire building.

This year the need to help is expected to be greater than ever. If you can't make it in to buy some dogs, you can also donate on line on the THAW website. Let's help keep our neighbors warm.
