Re: Mixed Nuts -- who you're getting in bed with

I thought I'd write you in this format that you might be more familiar with to make sure you were aware of the folks you're getting in bed with if you fund the conservative smear groups by highlighting this week's fringe nut: Jerome Corsi.

Jerome Corsi, author of "The Obama Nation," is at best a little nuts and at worst a truly bad person. That hasn't kept conservative groups help him get on the New York Times list with big bulk purchases of his book. Republican consultant Mary Matalin called his book "a work of scholarship" which raises quesions about whether she agrees with him.

Let's review some of what we know about Corsi.

1. Corsi cavorts with white supremacists.

2. Corsi is guilty of anti-Catholic, anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic statements or associations.

3. Corsi is a known plagiarist (according to a conservative!).

4. Corsi is a 9/11 conspiracy theorist -- desecrating the memory of everybody killed in that horrible terrorist attack.

5. The Associated Press reported that: "Corsi writes for World Net Daily, a conservative Web site whose lead headline Thursday [August 14] was 'Astonishing photo claims: Dead Bigfoot stored on ice.'"

Many of you donors hold positions with big companies or you're a leader in your community. You might be involved in some worthwhile charity. You're a conservative, but not a fringey right-winger. So, my question to you is: do you really want to associate yourself with people like Jerome Corsi?

If you start funding the right-wing smear groups you will be associated with these groups and people like Corsi, if not Corsi directly, forever. Thanks to the Internet this sort of stuff doesn't disappear. It will follow you forever.

Think about it.

Mr. Matzzie, thank you for the effort. But, frankly those with a conscience, those who care to be informed, those who even consider such matters improtant would not be right-wingers, or donors to right wing causes in the first place.

Great article Tom, but you make it sound like republican donors are not aware of who they are supporting.

Republicans are not only aware of the venomous vile trash spewed out by Corsi, but this is the type Lee Atwater, Karl Rove personality they seek out to do their lying and smearing for them.

But we have to admit they are getting better at their job, using a best selling book instead of Willie Horton ads, much more effective.

The republicans will not get it until AFTER election day. If they got it, and especially John McCain, they would outright condemn this bigot. Some republican pundits have refused. BTW, isn't Mary Maitland the wife of democrat James Carville? Strange....................

Most people that I know are depressed that Obama and McCain are the two left standing for President. They don't like either man, and both will take the country down a wrong path, just a different wrong path.

well I said that when we still had Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul in the running. We wanted change we should have voted for one of them. Rest were more of the same.
However, Obama is the lesser evil - ergo I shall place my vote for him and hopefully,
America will get smarter, much smarter come next election.

Iswide, yes, Mary Matalin is James Carville's wife. You know what the old adage is: Politics make strange bedfellows.

I find it completely unsurprising that World Net's last headline was about Big Foot. The right wing radio station in my town carries a show that follows 20 hours of right wing hate and delusion in which people call in to tell of their experiences being abducted by aliens. I have always thought that this is the perfect topper to a day of delusion and fantasy.

> Corsi is a known plagiarist (according to a conservative!)

What someone needs to do is get hold of Corsi's doctoral dissertation, go over it with a fine-toothed comb looking for instances of plagiarism and/or falsified research, and document and publish it. Once that is done, make sure Harvard is aware of it and in short order you can bet they will rescind his doctorate degree.

Then its bye-bye Corsi for good. Gone, Swiftboated in truth.

MR CORSI is a MEDIA AMBULANCE CHASER who sees his 15 MIN. OF FAME in
pushing his BOOK OF LIES against Obama as HIS WAY TO GET RICH.

It's THE REPUBLICAN WAY. Lies, deceptions, corruption that ultimately
cost the lives and maiming of OUT U.S.TROOPS. Corsi is a DISGRACE.
Corsi is A TRAITOR to American values.

There was a conspiracy about 911. Who or what will take time to reveal. We know that most of them were Saudi, that a Saudi royal's princess wife was funding them in LA before the attacks, that the CIA warned of a coming attack for months prior to the event, and that no one in Bush's cabinet paid that the slightest attention to these warnings.

And we know that the Saudis were spirited out of the country (with FBI help) to safety after the attacks. We know that the FAA and Norad both lied to the 911 commission about why they were unable to scramble fighter jets in time to stop some of the highjacked planes, what we don't know is why they lied.

Good stuff except for one major thing: Right or wrong, believing in a 9/11 conspiracy does not "desecrate" the memory of those who died. There is evidence that something very wrong was covered up, be it more gross incompetence than has already been found or a conspiracy. "George Washington's Blog", which has been included on Huffpo, covers much evidence very well.

If anyone "desecrates" the memory of those who died it is a person who does not fearlessly want the complete truth investigated.

You're the lazy ones. Popular Mechanics recently published an article which effectively refuted every one of the technical arguments conspiracy buffs have made. Go to the latest issue of Skeptic Magazine out off CalTech (links at www.skeptic.com) and you will find links to a web page by scientists who actually know what they are talking about which also shoots the conspiracy theories down in flames. I agree that the neocons took advantage of 9/11, but instigated it? Pure fantasy. You both need to read something other than conspiracy buff webpages and books. BTW Im neither lazy, indoctrinated or intimidated. I'm an old lefty whose allegience is to science and reason. I've read the arguments on ALL sides on this one and you lose IMHOP.

Your feelings were well explained in a documentary about the JFK assasination. Using 3D computer graphics and position rotation it showed the single-bullet theory was a direct line. Having said that the makers explained "Why do people want to believe in this conspiracy?". The explanation is when you put a great man on one side of the scale like JFK and you put Oswald on the other side, an insignificant man, they don't balance. You need something more on Oswald's side of the scale. Some would call it cognitive dissonance. Bin Laden and the Hijackers just don't seem to be enough on one side of the scale to make 9/11 balance. We just can't believe history can be make by people being in the right place at the right time with a certain bad idea and catching people not paying enough attention to what they are doing but there are plenty of historical events that this is the case. We should believe it possible and actually likely that is how history is made and was made in this case.

A well written, thoughtful post, but pointless, and here's why. Democrats and liberals still do not seem to have figured out that those on the conservative side of the aisle have no qualms at all about seeking out and using the stupidest and least of our society. They realized long ago how dumb so people are, and even the smartest conservatives seem to have no issues about getting into bed with idiots as long as they get their votes for elections.

Nobody wants to say it out loud, but it boils down to stupid versus smart. The conservatives know that dumb outnumbers smart and will pander and even pretend to be one of them to get that vote. Talk to any Republican seeking office when the cameras aren't rolling and you'll see that I am correct. Most will even admit it while laughing about it.

This is true. But I live in a very red state, and I find that if I have a conversaation with a McCain supporter, and tell them just a few facts about his life story and his positions, they are surprised and promise to do a lot more research before voting. They are not really stupid. It's just that they are extremely uninformed and misinformed. Democrats cannot win unless they do something dramatic to change this state of things. These people listen to Rush and Sean all day and watch Fox all night. We have to do more to get through to them.

There are many videos and examples of Obama supporters not able to name one accomplishment of Obama or why they are voting for him. I don't say that to put down Obama but you better not assume that the "smart" people vote for Obama and the "stupid" people vote for McCain. People are just as uninformed about Obama as you found among McCain supporters. People assume all Obama votes are in the bag but if they were you wouldn't see the polls slipping. I think you may have hit on the oversight. Obama supporters have taken for granted they have the "smart" voters who really could not be turned by hearing their first McCain argument like you turned a McCain voter with the first Obama argument they heard. Your attitude is the one I fear allows presidential elections to slip away.

I could not agree with you more, Tom, ... with the exception of your 9/11 references. Your comment, "desecrating the memory of everybody killed in that horrible terrorist attack", pretends that the 9/11 Comission did not do the very same thing in their accounts. It does not serve the dead for us to believe in fairy tales, simply because they are bound in red, white and blue, and delivered to us by our government as fact. Please recall that Bush wanted no ivestigation whatsoever of the happenings that day. We have not been told all the government knows of that day, nor seen all the videos from cameras in the vicinity of the Pentagon, for example.

I think it is fair to say that the typical mugging on NYC's subway receives greater investigative attention than did the murder of nearly 3,000 of our fellow citizens that day. That these two miscreants espouse those concerns in their theories, does not obviate some of the facts upon which they base their theories. In short, buildings don't just "fall down", and firemen and policemen who reported hearing explosions that day should not be disregarded. The fact the 9/11 Comission did not even address the implosion of WTC7 late in the day is a similar case in point.

Yes, this man is a political degenerate. Let's leave 9/11 for another day. It is clear that neither the government nor the conspiracy theorists have given us all the facts we deserve.

This BS isn't going to work this time. John Kerry swiftboated HIMSELF by his lack of response. He didn't respond for a week or so, and it was the TV commercials that brought it to the public's attention. Obama has an 80 page rebuttal out the same week, along with an anti-Corsi campaign and troops of pundits on the attack. What non-right wing nut jobs are going to buy this book, take time to read it, and be swayed by it? Obama is by far the best candidate the Dems have had since at least Clinton.

9. think it's relevant — despite what the sophisticates say — that several of Obama's mentors and associates have displayed a dislike for America or a disdain for Americans.
10. think it's relevant that several of McCain's mentors and associates are American heroes of historic magnitude.
11. think about 9/11 more than once a year.
12. have concluded that Larry the Cable Guy makes way more sense than Howard Dean.
13. feel a little safer during turbulence when your pilot is a calm "white haired dude."
14. thought about Hillary's 3:00 a.m. phone call ad when you first heard about Russian tanks in Georgia.
15. wonder why Obama felt it necessary to give a speech on patriotism.
16. get sorta creeped out by 200,000 Germans chanting "Obama! Obama!"
17. think the jury may still be out on Harvard Law School.
18. suspect "merci beaucoup" is French for "empty suit."
19. doubt that teleprompters are really magical dispensers of good ideas.
20 know in your gut that defiantly withstanding 4 1/2 years of torture trumps all of Obama's qualifications and accomplishments combined — regardless of what the elite pundits say.

If four and half years of torture qualify one for President of the US, then we should nominate the prisoners in Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib. Maybe we should have a president standing on a box in a black hood and orange gown, with electrical wires attached to to his gonads. Is that your idea of qualified?
