Art by Rick Meyerowitz
Turns out New Yorker Editor Supremo David Remnick was just kidding with last week's apparently racist-classist-sexist- ethnically-and-religiously-biased cover. It was all just a set-up, said the legendary political satirist, to what we at the New Yorker really think of the great Senator from Illinois.
Say hello to...Mr and Mrs. Baruch Obama!

And McCain is a Buddist and no one cares????
How Norman Rockwell.
Manuel
Now THAT is funny.
I thought it was Abe Lincoln and Hillary!
Me too!
Now, that's even funnier than the cartoon. LOL.
I think it's kind of sad that the New Yorker has been intimidated into making nice with this cover. They did nothing wrong.
How shocking that a Clintonite would not find TNY cover offensive. How shocking indeed. (sarcasm)
how shocking that an obamanite would find ANYTHING offensive. How shocking indeed.
(sarcasm)
I'm a fierce Obamaniac, but I didn't find anything wrong w/ the last cover...I GET the irony. Although as I've read other people suggest, if they had the same thing of McCain and Cindy then THAT would have been even better. Or even if they ran the Obama cover one week and the McCain the next.
And just who would have intimidated the NYer?
I've been a fan of you & Rick since the NatLamp in the 70's! Now this is humor!
The funniest part is the play on the name Barack/Baruch. Of course they mean the same thing in Arabic and Hebrew: Barack = blessed; Baruch = blessed.
This is great and could be a good fix for any damage done. If several different cartoons were drawn and published whether the Obamas were dressed in construction, boating or any outfit that would distract and confuse from the original garbage.
I think that's a great idea. It'd be pretty funny, too.
It'd sure change the story.
"...fix for any damage done." ? Ehm, not quite. Something equally outrageous about John and Cindy, THAT would fix all. imho.
Obama - the elitist, orthodox Jew.........
"Hair is also a symbol of vanity, a preoccupation of how one looks. The prohibition against cutting off the peyos reminds a person to de-emphasize his looks, and instead depend on intellect and good character." Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, 19th century Germany
Who's zooming who? Hehehehe ;)
still not funny
LMAO !!!!
I don't care who you are.....that's funny !
Get er Done !
This is funny! Ok, no one accuses Obama of being Jewish, but if we are going to portray he and his wife as something they definitely are not, why not this? At least it's funny! Maybe you have to be Jewish to get it. You've never seen Orthodox Jews, anywhere, not even in the movies on the streets of New York? Ever watch a Woody Allen film? "Annie Hall," when Annie's grammy looks at her dinner date, Woody, and sees the traditional curls flowing beneath each ear? Oy, go rent that film! Or "Bananas," when Woody, the revolutionary, mistakenly contacts the JDL (Jewish Defense League) to help fight (they all look the character in this drawing). I question Michelle's blond hair. I'd put a traditionally braided Challah bread in the bag in Obama's right hand. It looks like a French loaf of bread. Did I mention this is funny?
"I question Michelle's blond hair." -- As well you should. It's a sheitel.

"I'd put a traditionally braided Challah bread in the bag in Obama's right hand."
Well, Zabars carries several kinds of challah, but I hate to tell you, Hasidic Jews don't actually shop at Zabars... The idea that they do, though, is sort of poetically true, even though not actually true, if you see what I mean.
I really don't get it......damn, I need somebody to explain satire to me.....BUT that other cartoon was funny from beginning to end by "jibjab".
Now THAT'S funny!!
Now THAT's funny.
