I love Barack Obama. He inspires a nation. He's our generation's JFK. Our LBJ. Our HSBC. Because we can bank on him doing the right thing for this country. And he'll even give you interest, because he's interested in what the young people today are thinking. His words strike such a chord with my fellow young Americans -- Americans 2.0, if you will.
"Yes we can!"
"Change!"
Wow! Yes we can change! Change we can, yes! Yes we can change! We can make change! Give us a dollar, we'll give you four quarters, ten dimes, a bunch of nickels and pennies, you name it. It's so inspiring!
Even if you switch it up, it still works. "Change!" "Yes we can!" Change for cans! Give us some cans, we'll give you change! A nickel, actually! Because that's what Obama is all about. Recycling, and giving people who are down on their luck a little money. It makes me proud to be an American. And hey, Hillary -- no deposit, no return!
"We are the ones we've been waiting for." Just thinking about it gives me chills. We ARE the ones! We! Ones! Waiting! For! The wee ones are waiting! But only until 4! Because the children, the young adults of tomorrow, are on the move! Wee ones are too active to just wait around. They're not going to wait around until 5 or 6. They certainly won't wait till 7 or 8, because that's their bedtime. The wee ones have lots of important things to do! Like recycle cans! And play on the swings!
And then, there's the big one. The one on all the Obama signs. "Change We Can Believe In." Yes! Believing in change! I believe in change! In fact I believe there's some change in my couch, underneath the cushions. And that's what Obama is about. Finding the change where you normally don't think to look. And then you can go get a can of soda that someone will recycle, and get a nickel for doing it in the bargain. And that's how the economy is going to work in an Obama administration.
A lot of people say it's impossible for one person to make a change. But one day, when his face is on the dollar bill (I've never thought it fair that George Washington should get the dollar and the quarter), all Americans will be able to make change for President Obama. And that's what this campaign is about. Isn't it?

Change you can believe in: 4 quarters for a dollar.
Take it to the bank!:
Obama has never claimed that he will change Washington but that WE, the American people will. He is the agent of change, the catalyst but it is WE that will force the change to happen.
Yes WE can
I'm hoping this was written and filed away a quarter-year ago, though why it's trotted out now eludes me. Obama's the candidate for the democratic party now. All this boyish mockery of sloganeering winds up as grist for the republican attack machine. What's your point? I mean, today.
"Finding the change where you normally don't think to look." Yes we can!!!! Fired up , ready to go.
I choose to be inspired and filled with hope! His catch phrases are great , easy to remember and to the point ! The whole campaign premise is to deliver some of this responsibility back to us and enlist our time and talents to the rebuilding of this badly tattered country ! We can no longer shut our eyes to needs if we actually are aware of them and are given the structure to do something about them. Truth and responsibility will rule the day and America can once again be proud of herself and those who are in Leadership roles !!
"I've never thought it fair that George Washington should get the dollar and the quarter" -- And the nation's capitol, and a state, and his face on a mountain, and a big phallic monument.
If Obama's slogans are so stupid, why is everyone copying them? After Obama won Iowa, Hillary suddenly became the "change" candidate. Then she started going around saying, "Yes we will!". Now McCain has become "a leader we can believe in," and he too wants to talk about all the change he'll bring to Washington. Don't even get me started on the blatant copying of Obama's website.
McCain is free to copy...I won't complain. It sure didn't work of Hillary. Anyway, isn't imitation the greatest form of flattery?
Tony,
I love this post. So many of Obama's critics claim that he's naive for thinking he can "change" Washington, that he isn't "seasoned" enough, and that a message of change is just "rhetoric".
However, to his supporters, these are all reasons to say, as you did, I love Barack Obama.
When one says that Obama is naive to think he can change things, what they're really saying is that they are someone who has LOST hope, who is cynical and skeptical of possibilities. Obama is the opposite.
When one says Obama is "unseasoned" what they're saying is that he hasn't learned to play by the accepted rules of the Washington "ins". For many, this is what we WANT...someone who sees there many just be another way of doing things.
Finally, and most importantly, when one says that a message of change is just "rhetoric", they are showing their own ignorance to the importance and power of inspiration. That inspiration and desire to get involved that Obama has brought to millions of people like we haven't seen in decades is the most important thing he has to offer this country. To discount and dismiss that as nothing but rhetoric only shows that his critics have no understanding BY being inspirational and getting people involved in record numbers, change has already begun!
BTW, no idea if you were being sarcastic and mocking Obama, but I chose to look at is as positive...because even if you WERE mocking him, it only showed your ignorance for the power of inspiration!
Pathetic. Like most people who knock BHO, that is about the best they can come up with. Making fun of his slogan or claiming his hope, change, speeches are just fooling the gullible.
How about something concrete? I hear middle-aged women claiming they were true democrats but after this lousy primary season, because BHO is such a liar and sleaze and ran such a dirty campaign they are going to vote for McCain.
Well, these people are certainly bitter. And possibly quite racist. And not real democrats. And obviously, they wanted to crow in Men's faces about the new Woman running the show more than they care what kind of woman she is....a neocon reptile like LIEberman. You know, there are plenty of concrete, real reasons to dislike HRC and her politics. Plenty of reasons to think she was capable of doing any bad thing. Reasons to know she was in bed with big corporations and the big media which is helping cause all of our problems.
Got anything concrete on BHO? Or just your bitterness?
You missed the point of the article. It is creative piece. The writer has used these slogans to transition into different concepts and ideas that provide a positive depiction of Obama (in the abstract), for example "And that's what Obama is about. Finding the change where you normally don't think to look."
In addition: (more $ from the change that you found in places that others weren't looking) "And then you can go get a can of soda that someone will recycle, and get a nickel for doing it in the bargain. And that's how the economy is going to work in an Obama administration." Those are concepts that work together in a positive way. [sorry it's kind of difficult to explain my intepretation]
But, read it closely. Take what you want from this article. I think if you read it closely, you can find
compliments. Maybe that's just my audacity of hope.
