Tony Shawcross is the founder and executive director of Deproduction, a nonprofit media and technology organization in Denver. After graduating magna cum laude with a degree in marketing and business administration from the University of Colorado, he worked briefly in marketing and advertising for the IT industry before leaving to focus entirely on socially relevant media, working with Little Voice Productions, the Colorado State House of Representatives, the Pan African Arts Society and Free Speech TV. Shawcross has presented more than 100 media education courses and produced hundreds of films and videos for local and national television, film festivals and community screenings.

In 2006, Tony and Deproduction launched Denver Open Media, a new approach to community-powered television. Borrowing from the models of Wikipedia, CurrentTV and others, D.O.M. makes training and equipment available to anyone, and lets the producers and viewers determine the programming schedule of 3 TV stations in Denver. In 2008, Deproduction was selected to manage and produce the Colorado Channel for the Colorado State Legislature, a statewide C-Span designed to "open the lid" on the State Capitol and increase public engagement and governmental transparency.
