Last week, the International Air Transport Association ruined every maximalist packer's day by recommending new, smaller carry-on sizes -- the idea being to maximize overhead space, so that every passenger has room to store a bag.

If the trade association's proposals are adopted by airlines, travelers will have to keep their non-checked bags to 21.5 in. x 13.5 in. x 7.5 inches. By comparison, that's 2.5 inches less than the restrictions that American, Delta, and United airlines imposed last year (which, by the way, seemed tiny at the time). Though that doesn't sound like much, it is sternly limiting when shopping for a suitcase. So, until your favorite luggage company makes an IATA-approved rollaboard, here are five bags to shop now.
