"Bring 'Em Home!" Obama-Webb '08

"OBAMA-WEBB SWEEP TO VICTORY, " reads the headline Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 in The New York Times.

I've seen the future and thought I'd come back and share the good news. Everyone expected a tough, close race against McCain when Obama elbowed Hillary out of the top spot. For weeks there was furious speculation as to whom he would chose as his VP but when he settled on Senator Jim Webb, former Marine, former Secretary of the Navy under Ronald Reagan, dad of a young man recently returned from Iraq and from the swing-state of Virginia, all the pieces fell into place for a rout. The Webb choice defanged the McCain advantage on militaristic experience and like Obama the one-term Senator from Virginia represented a fresh face that the electorate craved. The Democrats coasted to victory with the simple slogan: "Bring 'em Home! Obama-Webb '08."

The McCain-Kay Bailey Hutchison ticket tried to counter with their own slogan, "A HUNDRED YEARS OF MORE WAR!" but it never really caught on.

I'm still thinking he'll pick Al Gore.

Oh, yeah!

...I'm sure Gore will be tripping over himself running to be VP, again.

It would be a pretty much unbeatable ticket and would fit Obama's message of working with people on all sides(Webb is just barely a Democrat and definitely not a liberal), but I do have a major problem with Webbs vote yesterday.

So far, this is the best possible matchup for a dream ticket!

Don't get me wrong I practically have a man-crush on Jim Webb. He is a real man. His Democratic response to Bush's SOTUS speech is just one example of that. So let me just make two points.
1. Please let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The three state primary in march hasn't been decided yet.
2. I think that if Obama does well in march, as I hope he does, then he should pick from one of the candidates that actually ran for the same job. My very short list is Chris Dodd or John Edwards.
All that said, I wouldn't mind it one teeny bit if your vision became truth.

I like the things Webb says, but I find his voting record troubling.

Totally agree about Dodd and Edwards. In that order, too.

Don't kid yourself, Trey. It's only February, and this is not gonna be a cakewalk by any means. A lot can happen between now and then.

I would have been more enthusiastic about this before Webb voted yesterday to give the president the power to spy on Americans with impunity. I still love the idea of Webb as Obama's running mate, but his vote yesterday was a real disappointment.

Webb voted to enable Bush's lawlessness and to grant retroactive immunity to Telecoms for spying on U.S. citizens.

Changing the law to eliminate accountability is part and parcel of the Bush/Republican corruption that got us into this mess.

Webb has no business being VP.

Barack, on the other hand, would make an excellent VP ;-)

Clinton/Obama '08!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:27 PM on 02/13/2008

Of course, then, Clinton would make an excellent VP too...but I am not sure about her being president.

HRC did, after all, vote to authorize Bush to take us to war, voted FOR the Patriot Act, voted FOR the bankrupcy bill she is now against, voted FOR the Kyle-Liberman saber rattling that Obama Opposed. Oh yeah, she also voted FOR No Child Left Behind, which her husband has roundly criticized recently.

Oh yeah, she also missed the vote on the new telecom-immunity spying bill that Obama was there to vote against.

hmmmm, come to think of it, with her track record of mistakes and wrong votes, she wouldn't even make a good VP. At least Webb only made ONE mistake!!

I don't believe Hillary would be interested in being VP.

"telecom-immunity spying bill that Obama was there to vote against."

Maybe you'd better think again:

Obama voted against the retroactive immunity for telcom industry jerks but Clinton skipped the vote and we all know she has some great telcom supporters donating to her campaign. OBAMA shouldn't take 2nd chair to her, he should take her advice perhaps but then flavor it with his own wisdom and perspective but nothing more. Clinton VP I would be sick having for vote for a ticket with her on it but if it means Obama is president than Ill do it.

===============================

"support removing telecom immunity", earlier in the day, amounted to the usual 'present', but NO CIGAR.

The telectom vote is not a good one. But Cilnton missed the vote entirely. According to your standards, Clinton's voting record would not qualify her for either office.

Who in their right's mind would be VP for Hillary?

Especially when Bill will have much more power as a co-President than the VP would have.

Webb voted for corporate amnesty on FISA.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:14 PM on 02/13/2008

Althought he was elected as a Democrat, Jim Webb is a voting Republican determined to bring this country to it's knees before it's corporate masters. Webb would be a good V.P., for McCain.

I have been tauting Jim Webb as a VP for either Hillary or Barack to anyone who would listen to me. I think he would be a perfect candidate.

I voted for Barack in the California primary and it was a tough, tough decision. I still like and admire Hillary. I just want the Democrats not to engage in "mutually assured self-destruction" and be prepared to support whichever candidate can best beat McCain.

I like it! Mrs. Clinton, though very qualified, would not subject herself to being a #2. Jim Webb would be just the things to counteract the McCain war hero factor.

Jim Webb would not be the right VP for Obama. Yesterday he voted in favor of thetelecom immunity bill, which was a betrayal to all American's.

He should pick Tim Kaine, Gov. of VA, or Mark Warner, former gov. of Virginia. These two guy's delivered Obama the Commonwealth of Virginia and have extensive gov't/executive experience.

Obama/Kaine or Warner '08!!!

If nominated, Obama needs someone with deep experience in foreign affairs and/or military. I'd favor Clark if he hadn't endorsed Clinton. Webb doesn't provide the depth to the ticket that it would need.

I wonder what kind of secretary of state Hillary Clinton would make....

I agree, his vote yesterday to give the telecoms immunity makes him out of the question in my mind. Also, I don't recall him supporting Obama in his Virginia campaign.

Yeah, he fights real well in the election. Then when he gets in office, he rolls over. Webb has betrayed every campaign promise he made, voting time and again to enable Bush, and I say this as someone who financially supported his campaign. I wish I had saved my money. Webb is not even a real Democrat. He would be the ideal choice of a VP if Obama wanted to slap the netroots in the face.
