Dir. Terry Gilliam (1998)

"Too weird to live, and too rare to die." Sure, Hunter S. Thompson (Johnny Depp) was talking about his lawyer and cohort Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro), in this adaptation of his tripped-out Vegas memoir, but the same could be said of this movie and its director Terry Gilliam. Visit bat country with Dr. Gonzo and Hunter before you head out to see Gilliam's latest, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which opens nationwide this weekend. (Depp, along with Jude Law and Colin Farrell, stepped in to Heath Ledger's role when the actor died suddenly during filming.)
