Don't Ask, Don't Tell: Telling My Story to Congress

Eric, I am very proud of you both for having served and sacrificed for the rest of us and for doing so when you personally were not being treated equal. Your story is a testament to your personal courage.

There are members of my extended family who are bigots in every sense of the word. So when I returned from war with a healthy contempt for racism, sexism, and all the other anti human "isms," I was ostracized by some of those family members. I just emailed your article to several of them, and I am pleased to report a definite attitude change. Not a complete turnaround, mind you, but a greater degree of understanding.

You seem to be a person who can adapt to what life throws at you, so I wish you nothing but the best in your future.

Joe Klein: John McCain's Comment On Obama Wanting To Lose War "Most Scurrilous" He's Ever Heard

With everyone of these baseless accusations, my respect for John McCain is diminished. He must remember that respect is earned and can be lost forever much quicker that it was attained.

Senator McCain: you are on the verge of losing it all. Is supporting your neocon cronies worth it? posted 07/23/2008 at 03:56:38

McCain Gets History Of The Surge Wrong, CBS Doesn't Air Footage

I am beginning to suspect that the Republican party figured out some months ago that it did not stand a chance of keeping the White House this year. Knowing this and not wanting the embarrassment tha comes with losing, the major candidates withdrew from the race.

Since John McCain is not well though of in the party, he was either not in the loop or just plain forgot. Everyday he seems more and more like a sacrificial lamb on his way to electoral slaughter. Someone should tell him. posted 07/23/2008 at 01:43:36

For McCain A Candidate's Military Pedigree Hasn't Always Mattered

Ouch! posted 07/01/2008 at 20:42:35
Military service does not, in and of itself, qualify or disqualify someone to be President of the United States. What it does is present the voters with another element with which to decide which candidate has the best skill set to lead and govern honorably and effectively.

For example, Bud Day is a winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor, a full blown true blooded American hero. He is also unqualified to be our President posted 07/01/2008 at 20:21:44
Now that's an interesting point of view marijam. I suppose it's ok to come home and find out that your spouse, who has waited faithfully for your return from war, has been gravely injured in an auto accident so you almost immediately betray her faithfullness to you and go out and get a rich trophy wife. McCain Uses Swift Boat Vet Bud Day To Rebut Wesley Clark

Senator McCain has also abandoned our active military and put them more at risk by caving into Bush/Cheney, and the other neo-con war criminals, over torture. There will be a reckoning. The Republicans no longer own the veteran and military vote.
I truly hope he keeps hyping his military experience from the 60s and 70s. He will need more than those experiences to be a President and thousands upon thousands of us have equal or more experience to draw upon. His military experience has much less relevance to the world situation today than it did 30-40 years ago. We need new ideas not rehashed war stories.
Senator Obama will bring a new perspective to the White House. Our nation needs that new perspective.
Veterans are tired of being used as pawns when it convenient and forgotten just as soon as the need for a photo op or sound bite passes. Personally, I will defend Senator McCain from unfair and baseless attacks against his service and sacrifice just as quickly as I will denounce his campaign"s use of the same miserable tactics against Senator Obama. posted 06/30/2008 at 18:55:18

Senator McCain has never been a strong supporter of veterans' benefits. Never. He has consistently voted against mandatory VA funding. Most recently he came out against the new GI Bill. It really pissed me off when he claimed credit for passing the bill at some "town hall meeting" the other day.
The man just seems to have no idea that you cannot say one thing today and not have it questioned when it clearly contradicts what you said yesterday or last year. He doesn"t seem understand the existence of video and something called the internet.
He seems to think he was the only one who fought suffered during the Vietnam War. He is wrong. He somehow believes that if we "prevail" in Iraq the nation will somehow be vindicated from its loss in Vietnam as if that would somehow legitimize his personal suffering and loss.
Note to Senator McCain: None of us liked what happened in Vietnam, but your experiences as a POW do not trump the experiences of others who fought in Vietnam. We also don"t appreciate calling your office for assistance with the dysfunctional VA over which your party and your slacker president failed miserably to exercise oversight and be parroted the party line. Given your own personal history, we originally thought that you would be our advocate in Congress. We could not have been more mistaken. You and your party have shamefully abandoned your veteran peers. posted 06/30/2008 at 17:43:06

Gladys46,

Battle fatigue is so 1940s (General Patton's imfamous slap and out burst). By definition, Senator McCain suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Most people have no understanding of PTSD, but thanks to the fierce efforts of Senator McCain and the Bush/Cheney administration to hide reality and underfund the VA, it will be coming soon to a household near you if it's not already there simmering. And to press the movie analogy a little further (probably too far sorry), "Be afraid. Be very afraid!"

Unfortunately, right after we all get our $300 (veterans) to $600+ (non-veterans) stimulus checks, we are going to get a $1-2 Trillion bill for the treatment of the newest victims of PTSD coming in and out of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Fortunately, the Bush/Cheney administration has arranged for an installment payment plan so that we can share the cost with our children and grandchildren we just have to pledge General Electric, General Motors, and the General Welfare as defined by the Preamble to the Consititution as collateral.

This election is not only going to be the most important election for the boomers, tweens and Xs, it may well define the world's quality of life for generations to come. posted 06/06/2008 at 15:46:41
I don't believe that we serve our cause well by calling the opposition names, especially names made up about a person's medical conditions. I have been at the brunt end of that little game and it really hurts. We are going to win the November election by taking the high road. Given the Republican tactics and personalities (Malkin, Rush, Billo, Rove, Cheney etc. etc. etc.), there will not be much traffic on that road.

Having said that, it is obvious the telecoms have just purchased another Senator and presidential candidate.

Keep tuned, Phil Graham is negotiating another sale to the mortage bankers. posted 06/06/2008 at 15:25:13

Rep. Rohrabacher On Using Women's Panties For Torture

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher,

Your ignorance just flat embarrasses me. You haven't the faintest idea what is being discussed here. It isn't the character of the person being interrogated. It is the character of the person doing the interrogation. The current election is not over the terrorists value system it is about our--you know the United States of America-value system.

I personally interrogated hundreds of POWs during the Vietnam war. I never used women's panties as a tool. As a matter of fact, on several occasions I gave POW some of my underwear. I was extremely successful as an interrogator.

Why don't you stop talking out of that smaller head between your legs and start using the head on your shoulders. Nobody but a bunch of ignorant macho relics believes in the bullshit you are trying to peddle.

When this general election really becomes engaged, that other old ignorant macho relic, is going to have to answer for his surrender to the Bush/Cheney administration on torture. Everytime you make ignorant statements like this, you are putting American servicemen and women at additional risk. Why on earth can't you understand that.

Support the troops by putting them more at risk of torture to score macho political points?

You are despicable!!!!! posted 06/05/2008 at 19:03:23

Webb's Audition: Blasts McCain, Assesses Obama's Appalachia Problem

I have tremendous respect for Senator Webb. I would probably support him for any position.

He would have my support for any position in the Obama administration. However, he might well be more effective in his current position than any of the others.

Trust Senator Webb and soon to be President Obama to make the wisest choice.

They will! posted 06/06/2008 at 15:16:33
A couple of years ago, noone had heard of the junior Senator from Illinois ethier. Not a problem!

It is accurate that Arizona's economy is battered right now, but show me an area in the US that isn't suffering ecomonically.

Unless I am mistaken the economy (including Arizona's) will be one of, if not the, major issue during the general election. posted 06/06/2008 at 15:12:54

Obama Vs McCain: The Race Is On

Thank you for the heads up. I am sick and tired of hearing the talking heads discuss Hillary. She lost the election. Obama won. This is not rocket science.

Hillary needs to withdraw and endorse Obama. Why does she need time? She lost the nomination months ago.

If you heard McCains speech last night, you know we have many reasons to be afraid of a McCain victory in November. He will finish the job of destroying America that Bush/Cheney started. posted 06/04/2008 at 19:53:11
