"Honor Killing" Comes To America

"...where are feminists?" Here we are. "
Finally.

"Now that I've answered their question, allow me to ask mine: Will neo-cons ditch the crass politicking and help feminists get the word out that honor killings must stop?"
Conservatives have always opposed murder, its called support for the rule of law. posted 07/09/2008 at 13:59:22

I'll See Your GrassRoots FISA Problem and Raise You Some Pissed Off Women

Uh, Baden, the article addresses late term abortions. For your information, a sperm or an egg is not even remotely similar to a fetus. However, just continue to be "mad as hell" and don't let facts get in your way. posted 07/07/2008 at 08:25:56

A Key Right Recaptured

Still, how do you account for the fact that DC has one of the highest handgun death rates in the country WITH a handgun ban? I don't forsee a large increase in handgun sef-defence cases with the court ruling, however lets at least give the law abiding citizens a legal right to defend themselves. posted 06/27/2008 at 14:20:39

Twenty Years Later: Tipping Points Near on Global Warming

"And climate is nearing dangerous tipping points." "Climate can reach points such that amplifying feedbacks spur large rapid changes." "The tipping point for life on the planet will occur when so many interdependent species are lost that ecosystems collapse."

OK, I got the "tipping point" point. Now if the author could just tell me when this "tipping point" will occur. It seems that with the confidence the author places in his research he could at least give a year +/- when this will occur. Folks have predictied all sorts of things from impending ice ages to flying cars. Can the author put his reputation on the line and give us a time other than "soon"? posted 06/24/2008 at 10:12:39

One Enlists, One Graduates

"No, he enlisted in the Army because he was lost." Possibly.
The one subject that you hear the least talked about amongst enlisted folks is " why did you join?" It is considered a very private subject. People join the Armed Forces for a suprizingly wide range of reasons, yet most at some point in their career come to realize that service to the country is really important and valuable. And service personnel really, really do not like civilians feeling sorry for them.
The author seems to bemoan the fate of this "lost" boy, but the guilt of her sons' success seems to be the point of the article. posted 06/17/2008 at 11:07:27

The Next Big Bling

Dude! Come back down to earth. Although I agree that this is poor "journalism", this article is a pro Obama piece. posted 06/13/2008 at 10:42:29

Sometimes Honor Is Wrong -- The Problem With John McCain

"We may have to watch in horror as the Iraqis commit mass suicide. So be it."

I wonder if the author feels the same way about Darfur?
Much is made of Obamas' statement against invading Iraq. However, the statement was made to the views in the local community he served. Would he have made the same statement as a member of congress? posted 04/02/2008 at 13:13:14

Obama Should Think Big -- and Seat Michigan and Florida

Are you kidding? Obama give away Florida and Michigan? He has absolutly no incentive to do so, with Clinton on the ropes.
"The superdelegates won't risk crippling the Democratic party by driving black voters out of it short of a colossal Obama collapse..."
No truer words have ever been spoken, er, written! The Democrats would rather disenfranchize Florida and Michigan than risk a riot at the Denver convention by black voters. posted 03/31/2008 at 11:08:33

My Conversation with Gen. Wesley Clark on Dick Cheney

We are not "bogged down" in Korea. After the war the US made a commitment to station forces in South Korea to deter North Korean aggression. As a side benefit, the US forces in Korea rebuilt a country that was devastated by war. I don't think anyone would say that was a bad use of resources, given the state of the Korean penensula today. posted 03/25/2008 at 13:37:19
Stop loss is more than a bitch, it is a hard reality. What many don't understand is that life in the military is a hard reality in total. It is not a job one takes thinking that "if it is too tough, I'll just quit". Many stories are told about how recruiters dupe unwitting citizens into enlisting. However, most of these enlistees soon find that they have a meaningful, needed, and fullfilling profession that could result in the ultimate sacrifice. This aspect makes the service all the more meaningful. America has professional warfighters, not draftees. So denegrate their civilian and military leadership for mistakes, just understand that those professional fighters know full well what their job requires. posted 03/25/2008 at 09:04:23
General Wesley Clark ? This is the same General that was nearly releived of command for the sorry state of preparedness of American forces prior to the Kosovo intervention. I know, I was stationed in Germany when the call went forward to move forces into theater. The attack helicopter units took months to assemble due to a poor state of readiness. Clark botched nearly every aspect of that deployment, including having no clue as to how to respond to the Russian counter moves, which allowed the Serb forces to easily avoid retribution for the genocide they had inflicted. Those that tout Clark as a knowledgable military source are delusional. posted 03/25/2008 at 08:47:39

A Few Unanswered Questions About Bill Richardson's Obama Endorsement

Speaking of FLA and MI: Why has there been no cry about disenfranchized voters in those states? Also, if Clinton and Obama were both on the FL ballot, and neither campained in the state, why not just honor the results? Is there another answer besides "thems the rules"? After all, the primaries are run by private organizations, the Republican and Democrat parties, so it is not like the "rules" are written in the Constitution. posted 03/21/2008 at 13:24:13
"Richardson sees, as do most of us, that Senator Clinton (notice I called her that, not Hillary, not "that woman", not anything else) cannot win the most elected delegates ..."

True. However, neither can Obama at this point in the primaries.
Standing by for your next rationalization. posted 03/21/2008 at 13:15:46
Ok, so if the final popular vote is "pretty close", then you would have no problem with the supers voting for Clinton? posted 03/21/2008 at 13:09:41
"If Richardson thinks superdelegates should "vote according to who they represent," who does he think he's representing? "
Good question. It seems that sticking with your constituancy is ok as long as it favors Obama. posted 03/21/2008 at 12:20:51

This Good Friday Let Us Not Crucify Barack Obama

"In Obama our founders appear once again stepping from the mists of time to offer a wayward great, great grandchild an opportunity for redemption."
I am glad that you found your salvation in the Obama message, blessed be his name.
Sorry, but I just don't buy that "white guilt" thing, and therefore am in need of no "redemption" from a political messiah. posted 03/21/2008 at 12:34:40
