I'm a liberal Democrat and a veteran of the United States Army.

No Country for Bat-Men: The Superb, Disturbing Noir Knight

I'm glad you mentioned that. Dispite the incredibly glowing reviews, the screenplay may still be underrated. It's quite brilliant. Sometimes it takes a screenwriter like yourself to point that out. But, for me, it's not the action and spectacle, nor the colorful characters that make THE DARK KNIGHT special. It's the story and how it was told! Kudos to ALL involved in this film! posted 07/20/2008 at 18:48:04

Batman (1989): Why Michael Keaton is the Best Bruce Wayne

As a Batman geek, I feel qualified to comment here. Yes, Keaton gave an interesting take on Bruce Wayne. Yes, Burton showed us an interesting vision of his Gotham City. And yes, Nicholson gave us a fun Joker. But none of those were the "real" thing. I mean, Keaton didn't represent the Bruce Wayne from the comics. Burton didn't represent the Gotham City from the comics (he really only represents his own vision...that's what he does best) and Nicholson certainly wasn't the Joker from the comics.

BATMAN BEGINS and now THE DARK KNIGHT represent the Batman world I've always wanted to see on the big screen. posted 07/19/2008 at 18:53:37

Serenity Lost: Obama And The Netroots

I say this as a fellow Liberal. Barack Obama is not our puppet. We support him because he is easily the better of the two candidates. And I don't really want to say this out loud, but he is probably the most liberal candidate we've had in a while.

He knows this FISA situation is a tough one. But he also knows the Republicans are trying to paint the Democrats into another corner to show they are weak on terror. Obama will have far more influence as President. And I trust him to make the right decisions as our Commander In Chief.

I'm sure he truly appreciates all of our support, but we must understand the situation he's in right now. And we also must understand we cannot DEMAND he do everything we want him to do because he somehow "owes" us for helping his campaign...that makes us as bad as the lobbyists. He owes the American people the right to protect the Constitution. I'm confident he'll do that as our President. posted 06/25/2008 at 11:59:09

Nader: Obama Trying To "Talk White" And "Appeal To White Guilt"

Perhaps Nader isn't as smart as he'd like us to believe. This is a guy who has no idea how responsible he was for getting Bush elected in 2000. This is a guy who knows he can't win the White House, yet runs again. He thinks his run will have SOME positive influence. His run had no positive influence in 2000 and will have no positive influence in 2008.

Now, he thinks he knows all about Obama, when it's painfully obvious he knows nothing about the man. He has not considered Obama's background and how he grew up.

You may have been unfortunately relevant in 2000, Nader. But you are pathetically irrelevant now. It's time for you to recognize that. It's also time you recognized that no matter what good things you've done in the past. You are now one of History's rougues gallery of infamy. posted 06/25/2008 at 11:52:16

Has accomplished a lot in just a short period of time. Dispite admitting mistakes in his youth, seems to be a good father and husband.

The "liberal" media needs to be careful about trying to show "balance". They went above and beyond that when they attacked Al Gore far more than George W. Bush in 2000. If they're not careful, the same thing will happen this time.

Remember when the NYT came out with that John McCain lobbyist story? The one that implied an extramarital affair? The rest of the media was very quick to defend McCain for being unfairly attacked.

See, this kind of response is at the heart of what I'm asking. I can extoll the virtues of the positive qualites of Clinton as a running-mate. Her appeal to women and working-class voters. Her determination. Her husband's experience. I acknowledge all those thing. My question is if Clinton supporters can understand the issues Obama would have to face in choosing Clinton.

Instead of a legitimate response acknowledging such challenges, I get a sarcastic (bordering on mocking) response from Kanary. Nice. And just an FYI Kanary, I don't think you really want to compare Clinton's Senate record with Obama's records in both the U.S. and Illinois State Senate. posted 06/10/2008 at 14:08:12
This isn't about appealing to ultralibs and college students. Independents also care about changing Washinton politics. And experience can be provided by people other than the Clintons. I'm sure Obama appreciates any advice Bill Clinton is willing to provide, but I'm not concerned about what the media says about the former president. I'm concerned about how his own mistakes damaged an otherwise brilliant 8 years. I'm also concerned that his ties with lobbyists and countries like Dubai, which have already influenced at least one recommendation he's made, create issues Obama doesn't need.

And yes, Iraq will be a problem. Obama's going to attack McCain for his "poor judgement" on voting for the Iraq resolution the same way he did Hillary. Can you not see why having her on the ticket will present a contradiction?

As I said, I can see the positives the Clintons present...but I wonder if the Clinton supporters understand the negatives. Your response still makes me wonder. posted 06/10/2008 at 13:49:40

I hope Clinton supporters understand why Bill Clinton's return to the White House is an issue. I hope they understand how the ties the Clinton's have with many lobbyists and special interest groups is counter to Obama's message.

A couple of things:
1) It would seem a rather obvious answer to running against the first black or female candidate...to choose a black female running mate.

- but the problem with that is the excitement over Obama and Clinton is as much to do with their message of "change" and "hope" as it is their race or gender. Rice offers neither.

2) It would be a mistake for McCain to choose someone so close to the Bush Administration. Well, I'm a supporter for Obama and believe he has earned the nomination. Having said that, I'd love a Gore/Obama ticket! That would take care of a lot of issues. And if there's one person Obama would be willing to take the #2 spot for, it's Gore! posted 03/26/2008 at 11:46:04

Chris Wallace Regrets Speaking Out On Obama Bashing: "I'm Not Sure I'd Do It Again"

So Kilmeade defends his walk-off as a "joke" and Wallace "regrets" speaking out against the Obama-bashing. Sounds like they got a talking-to by the Fox heads. posted 03/26/2008 at 12:42:51

Clinton: Wright "Would Not Have Been My Pastor"

Huh? We say Bill Clinton questioned Obama's patriotism from a speech he gave where he said something along the lines of, 'Wouldn't it be great if we had two candidates who loved their country..."

Since he was talking up a confrontation between his wife and McCain it was obvious a subtle dig into Obama. And to answer your earlier question: No, I wouldn't have accused her of anything for saying "no comment". A) because, I certainly don't expect her to defend Obama in this (which is a little different than the muslim thing) and B) saying "no comment" wouldn't be an obvious ploy to keep the controversy going.

She has no shame! posted 03/25/2008 at 17:02:31
First, he stated he never heard "those" particular words used while sitting in the pew. He has admitted hearing "controversial" comments while in church. Truth is, he isn't the only one who has stuck to Wright for a long time. And it's because there are good qualities in the pastor too. If there weren't, he would never had been invited to Clinton's White House and he would never have been honored by a Texas University.

So let's backtrack a little. Let's re-analyze the situation: Barack Obama has a pastor who has made outrageous comments during his sermons. Sermons some African-Americans identify with, but white American's may find offensive. Sermons Obama himself stated he strongly rejects. Yet Obama also has suggested Wright is a good man who's done good things for the community. Wright's reputation before the controversy seems to support this defense.

So, Obama rejects his pastor's fiery rhetoric, without turning his back on the man. Without throwing away friendship with someone with whom he occasionally disagrees. Some may consider this a flaw. i consider this honorable. posted 03/25/2008 at 16:53:58
She tried to stay above the controversy, hoping it would do the damage for her. Now she sees Obama has fought back in the polls and she wants to keep it going. She may not have chosen Wright as her pastor but apparently he was decent enough to be invited to her husband's White House. More desperation.

And to respond to what we would "like her to have said"...She could have declined to comment or suggested it's a question for her opponent, not her. posted 03/25/2008 at 13:52:20

Morning Shows Snipe At Clinton Over Bosnia Remarks

I hope the media does ride this at least until the Sunday talk shows. It's only fair. This isn't something her pastor said, this is something SHE said!

Maybe Obama should have said Pastor Wright "misspoke". posted 03/25/2008 at 15:07:44

McCain Benefits From Protracted Democratic Race

Superdelegates have the power to end this...now! The 50 or so who were supposed to come out for Obama a couple of weeks ago (until Clinton begged them to stay pat) can come out and make a statement. They can make whatever happens in Pennsylvania irrelevant. If they don't, she'll probably win PENN big, once again giving her false hope to keep her chances alive. posted 03/24/2008 at 20:22:00

Obama Endorsed By Bill Richardson

It may not be earth-shattering, but I'm glad for some good news regarding Obama. With all the hype over Wright and race and overanalyzing everything to death, Richardson decided to ignore the controversy and endorse Barack now. That's nice to see. I admire Richardson for this and for not feeling the need to support Clinton out of history. I've thought for some time Richardson would be a perfect VP candidate for Obama. I'm hopeful that will happen. posted 03/21/2008 at 10:44:55
