I come from four generations of conservative republicans on both sides. My wife's family is the same way. I have voted against republican presidential candidates twice in my life. Both of them were named Bush. I registered INDEPENDENT in 02 and have voted a straight deomcratic ticket in 02, 04, o6, and will do so again in 08. The reason for this is that the current crop of republicans are a greater threat to this country than Al Queda. Al Queda and the Taliban have not taken away my freedoms. But the neocon repugs assuredly have. The neocon republicans like to call themselves "compassionate conservatives". This is a dishonest attribution. They are neither compassionate nor conservative. People should be urged to vote democratic, not because they are liberal, but because they represent improvements in honesty, right thinking, practical morality, competence, and real conservatism.
